Hello to all.Stumbled across this forum a few days ago and thought I'd join up.
My name is Terry and I live in Scone N.S.W with my wife Grumblebum......Oops........Theresa and two kids....Brady... leave your sister alone, 10 years and Brittany... stop crying, 7 yrs.We all love the caravanning lifestyle and have a 1982 Millard 18 ft caravan we have been to a few places in over the years. However due to the ever increasing price of fuel we decided to put the van on-site a few months ago in Warburton Vic as a family holiday site.
I am into vintage cars as well.I am also a member of the FB/EK Holden forum and the FE/FC Holden forum.I have 4x EK holden sedans,2x FB Holden sedans,3x 1937 Chevrolet GC 1/2 ton trucks (about the same size as a Toyota Landcruiser Tabletop 4x4), 4x HQ Holden sedans, and a 1941 Chevrolet 3 ton truck(all unregistered). The wifes shopping trolley is a 1994 ED Falcon XR8 Sprint (5 litre V8, 200 kw) and my workhorse is a 100 kilowatt Toyota Twin cam Hatch.
Oh nearly forgot.........and I have a 12 ft Globetrotter caravan!!!. I bought it from a wrecking yard about 5 yrs ago for $450 and towed it home about 70 km's. Its been used as a kids cubbyhouse since then.I didn't exactly know what it was until I found some near identical ones on this forum. It's external sheeting is a bit different to the others so maybe its a later one or has been resheeted at some stage but it is near the same as the 1965 one on the home page.It needs quite a bit of work....well really it needs a full restoration but will have to wait a while as I have a few pots on the boil at the moment.I thought it may have been beyond restoration until I saw some before and after shots on this forum that others have undertaken so I now have more confidence.
It has a small oval medallion inside the van which is stamped :"Patented on Construction No 15369 Globe Caravans South Australia".The owner of the wreckers said it had South Australian plates on it before he handed them in and he said the old couple who had it had been around Australia in it???(It certainly looks like it has). I don't have one of them digikal camera thingys so I can't put any photos here of the van but can send some normal photos to someone if they are able to copy them on to here.I'd really like to hear from other Globetrotter owners. Also I've noticed there are some members from Newcastle who are regular contributors here.It would be good to meet with them for a show and tell day sometime as I'm only a bit less than 2 hrs from there.
Anyway gotta go as my one-finger-at-a-time typing is time consuming and my finger is now sore!!!.
Well thats a bit about me......... Terry.
