Finally got the van sorted and took it for a run on Friday , not to far ,...just down to Mackay ,, and a car show , and visit my parents, .... well..,,, van towed awesome at 100ks .... but it was like towing a rather large brick.......fuel consumption .....wait for it .....95 litres for 400 ks .....(one way)... . . so next is to put a "fuel scoop" on the roof . .mind you ,,,,I got stuck behind a "grey nomad" doing 80ks...with his 200k plus rig... pulled the Val back to third and blasted past ....in a cacaphony of unbridled hemi noise...........woohoo..... . . .soooooo.... how was your weekend? ? . .mine ,...over 1000k's and the little van towed like a dream ;D ;D

so next is to put a "fuel scoop" on the roof The wind deflector is a good idea, towing a van with a "Full Frontal" ;D I had one on a Fairlane many years ago, when towing a Viscount brick. It helped with the fuel consuption and stability in strong winds. Easy to tell when it is working, there are no bugs on the front of the van. Cheers, Ron

yes ,...towing the "brick" ...(that could be it's new name )...behind the jeep (96 cherokee),,,
there was not much difference in fuel consumption......but behind the Val....well it's now time to look for some fuel savers ....lol

Dave.. If you are going to fit a "wind deflector" on the roof... make sure that it is almost "Flat". They need very little angle to be effective. I had one on my 86 Turbo diesel Landcruiser when i towed "Matilda" to the 2006 Vintage van nats in Morgan S.A And old dude told me i had it kicked up too steep. I adjusted it down till it was near flat. fuel consu, ption improved .. and still managed to throw all the bugs over the roof of the van. I finally sold the gadget ( made of fibreglass) at Clarendon swap meet about a month ago. .. $25. Fuel consumption. ..... if cars are your hobby... dont even consider thinking about fuel consumption or cents/dollars per litre... just stick ya foot into it and enjoy it while ya can ;D. Reddo

thanks reddo...
yeh making cars go quicker and fuel consumption don't equate.....lol... the Val runs low 15s and still gets 20 m.p.g. (yeh showing my age .....I could slow down on the highway but am an advocate of doing the speed limit)...and thats it .."enjoy it while you can".... . . . . thanks bloke......
