Hi Davenq,
What sort of van is it, ply , glass or aluminium.?
Do you have enough space on the inside of the wheel wells to narrow the axle, & still keep at least 25mm clearance? If so, narrowing your axle could be one way out.
Is your axle straight or dropped? Most dropped axles I've seen have the drop right alongside the spring. That prevents you narrowing the axle without major surgery to relocate the springs.
If the axle is straight, Supercheap( & others) sell components to make your own axle.
If you cant alter the axle, & you really want those wheels, you will have to cut out the wheel wells for clearance, That generally totally stuffs the side look of of a vintage van, unless you can make & instal some spats to cover most of the wheel opening, which then hides your wheel, which negates the purpose of fitting them.
You , & only you, gotta decide which way you can afford to go.Sometimes its easier in the long run to do an about face on your ideas, & think laterally. Maybe you can find some early Torana 13"mags,. I've seen some that appeared abot 4 1/2" wide, with standard offset to replace a factory steel wheel.
After all, you can only see the wheel on a van from the side. Remember nobody knows what image you are trying to project for your van wheels but yourself.

Thanks all,..... After a bit of research ...(read drinks with old mateys....) pulling the axle tommorrow to either a. get a new shorty.. or b. narrow the existing. . .JBJ....the van is alley...yeh I like the original look on the side(the tiny wheel arch that you have to jack the van a million miles before you can get the wheel off....) there is plenty of backspace to accomodate this...(and I can revert it to original if I ever want to...) . cheers

Hi Dave.. "Low profiles" Low profiles and potholes dont get along very well when they meet. Have seen many a good rim destroyed due to the lack of tyre wall hieght.... ask JBJ ( spring tour last year) anything less than a 60 series is likely to give you trouble if you bounce through a hole in the tar. Might be worth sacrificing a bit of "Cool" and fit something with a bit of wall hieght... especially if ya plan on loading the van up with goodies. Just a thought... take it or leave it mate. Reddo

thanks reddo.............but .....see I got it regoed as less than 1 tonne.....have beefed up the Val's springs... so most of the weight is in the tow car ,...have deleted a lot of the "goodies" .. and the van is as light as... it seems to track better with wider tyres ,,, and all the spec's come in legally...e.g. radial tyres rated at 580 k.g.s each ..the mags ar'nt designed for commercial use ...650 k.g's....etc etc...so all in is a win win ...
