Hi fellow VV enthusiasts, Below is a couple of pictures of my wife's family camping in the Flinders Ranges in 1968. The caravan they bought from a family member and the father in law said it was a 'GALAH' brand as it had it written somewhere on the van. With no clear brand name showing, the curve roof could be indicative of an early Roadmaster. Anyway I will try and find out more and have put the pictures up for interest and comment. Cheers Graem

Not sure if ozman is being a bit sarcastic about the kids , but my kids would have a ball out there , we just bought a generator and Ive nearly finished the globe, this is exactly the kind of spot we would be looking for

I am now thinking that this van looks very much like Castle given the style of the wheel 'spats' and front aluminium protection panels.

G'day Aussieambo, It's a while since you posted the pics of your in-laws' Galah caravan, however I was trawling through some threads yesterday when something clicked. Your in-laws' van is/or was built by Adventurer. If you check out Relmhayd's van on the Adventurer thread in DHL here (see Reply #12) you'll see that it is an exact match, right down to the flash across the side. That doesn't explain the reference to 'Galah' though...unless 'Galah' was the model name? Or could the name have been 'Gala'? If I was selling caravans I'm not sure that I'd want people to refer to my vans (or me) as a galah... but 'Gala' could be quite an upmarket name... Your comment about the van looking like a Castle, may not be far off the mark either. The late 50's Castle Windcutter series of caravans were clearly of a South Australian design, but I have never been able to figure out what the connection was. However if you look at the 15 foot Windcutter in the top left hand corner of the following advert, you'd have to think that it is built by the same crowd as your in-laws' van, ie Adventurer. (Source: Keith Winser, Australian Caravan and Touring Manual, 1959) I reckon you may have solved the Windcutter mystery! Now all we need to do is to sort out the relationship between Adventurer and Galah... Don Ricardo

Hi Don,
Thanks for your input, much appreciated. I could try the father in law again and show him some of the pics/info on this thread. May jolt his memory.
Regards
Graem
