Hey gang, What I really need is a poll, since this great forum doesn't seem to have the poll option I am curios to see what other people would do in my situation.
Currently I have 2 caravans, 1 which is one I found at Yundi which I am restoring basically from nothing and of course Jezebel which has been in the "facinating" caravan and more recently featured in the copper coast cavalcade in members photo album.
Life was good, untill another van popped up and has disrupted life as I know it. Normally I would just buy it and be done with it but (theres always a but) ;D the missus says I can only have 2 vans. Which means if I really want this van I need to sell one I already have.
It's hard, The first van I rescued from a untimely end which had been forgotten about for at least 20 years. I still love this van, and To be honest I seem to struggle with finishing things and the more I seem to do to the van the further it seems from being finished. This spurs me on to really want to finish it as it's such a big project and if I can finish this I should be able to do anything. The other point is the missus LOVES this van she even doesn't like Jezebel as she takes the focus of attention of Berry'd. Less attention = longer to finish.
The second I bought purely for the fact that it was there and it was usable, plus I love it's history and the look of the van. I have only used it once but loved every minute of it. I was in Berry'd today and I remembered I can't stand up properly in it as I'm too tall and it's really small. Jezebel is a nice size and I can walk around in it comfortably.
Problem is this van is really too good to pass up, it's cheap (stupidly cheap) and is a shape I was really lusting after. I know I will kick myself if I pass this up and I doubt another oppurtunity like this will ever present itself again.
So what would you do? I asked my mate tonight and he told me to forget this other caravan and keep going as is?
Nothing is set in concrete and I won't be making any rash decisions. Just seeking other peoples opinion.

Hey Andrew We all face that challenge It's called the restorers bug ;D ;D ;D My missus has the same attitude and I see it as a way of saving me from a lot of grief Stick with what you have and fix them up first After that....... see what else the web blows your way Since buying and starting my Olympic there has been numerous Olympics for sale and in better condition than mine was. Finish what you have first and then move on Cheers Atog

;D Or you could buy it anyway ,bring it home and then decide which way to go,the betta half might change her mind once she sees how much in love you are with them all . Or sell it after you decide, but if it's that good a deal grab it and decide after-wards. OR you could let me know about it .

I agree, get the new van home and then make the hard decision.
I only have room for one van, I have two, one I lent to a guy who lost his house in the fires. The bigger van will be sold when he has built his house.
I don't miss the other van now that it is not here and I have almost finished Twiggy.

G'day Andrew, there's a few issues here First, if your better half doesn't like Jezebel, best get rid of it you'll have absolutely no problem finding a buyer for Jezebel Second, if your gut feeling is that the little van is tooo bigger project for your time, money & skills, best get rid of it I got caught out with a project I should never have started ....and didn't finish .....and subsequently sold unfinished after spending hundreds of hours : Thirdly, this forum does have a poll facility .....but I dunno how to use it Mark

Hey gang, What I really need is a poll, since this great forum doesn't seem to have the poll option I am curios to see what other people would do in my situation. Hi Andrew, Firstly, you can set up a poll on this forum if you want to. The process is to go to 'Home', select the section you want to set up the poll in, then instead of choosing 'New thread' choose 'New poll'. There's more info under the 'Help' button. Secondly, my penny's worth on the question you've raised: The most enjoyment from V V'ing (in my opinion/experience) comes from sharing the journey (both restoring and traveling varieties) with your spouse, which means that for you both to enjoy the experience you need to have a van you both enjoy being in. If you're wife doesn't enjoy being in Jezebel, then move the van on to some one else. And of course there is one other factor in this situation - what wife wants to share her man with 'another woman' called Jezebel? ;D ;D ;D Don Ricardo

Andrew, I've restored quite a few old cars in my time, had fun with each one, then moved them on so I could start another, that is my hobby. I havent the room or funds to keep them all. Building wooden boats is another hobby, after building & using the boat for a while, it goes too so I can do something else. Restoring wooden vans is a great hobby for me right now, but when this one is finished, I definitely need another to do, so cant imagine keeping this one that I am filling my days rebuilding, and enjoying it immencely ;D ;D. If I ever get a 140, it will be a keeper though;). So if I was you, or maybe more like if you were me, you would go with your heart & get the next one, move one of the other ones along, make someones day Just do it ST

Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to help out a poor young bloke who has lost his way lol. Firstly, the wifey is staying! we met when she was 14 and I 16 and we have been inseparateble ever since. She does cook and is very good at it, I can also cook but she is better than me at it. Basiclly NO van would ever be able to take her place. Now The Palace, that's a bit different...... ;D. I have given it alot of thought and am somewhat closer to making a decision. The first van in heindsight I shouldn't have bought. I didn't really realise just how much work it needed and I didn't know just how many old vans were waiting around for a knight in shining armour, I remember thinking "jeez I better buy this one who knows if and when I will find another" Michelle actualy mentioned selling Berry last night and I couldn't believe it, she said she would miss it but at the end of the day it' my hobby and I can do as I please. And for the first time I seriously considered it. Berry is beyond my skills BUT I have secret weapon and it comes in the form of dear old Dad, without him it wouldn't be happening. But I have bought it and also spent alot of time and money on it and I also am really enjoying working on it with Dad, great excuse to go up visit Dad and suck a few home brews. We arn't doing a ground up resto on Berry, just repairing / replacing what it needs to get it back in circulation. Plus Michelle remimded me why I bought it, to tow behind the FB. It's all original so I need a caravan that's really small and light as we all know the 138 is no powerhouse. Berry fits the bill perfectly! albiet a bit of work Which leaves poor old Jezeblel, IF I get this van it will be her neck that's on the chopping block ultimately I would love to have a property where we could all live together happily but alas I don't. Her and Michelle got off on the wrong foot Michelle thinks she is "ugly and crude" as soon as I saw it I fell inlove with it, she wasn't impressed and said no! I had to have it and harped on to her till eventually she gave in. Yes! I thought victory for me lol, went out bought it got it home and now she resents me for it, and always says "just sell it, I never wanted it in the first place" Jezebel has alot of pro's and cons, I like how it looks so different to most of the vans out there, and I absolutely adore all the history that has come with it. I don't like the fact that it's so big, certainly makes towing it for me a challenge as I have the FB which I wouldn't even bother trying to tow it with and the Cortina which unless there's no head wind or hills it really struggles. However when we get to said destination it was nice to have a bit of room, I have never stayed in any other van so it's hard to tell how we would go in a smaller van. First things first, I will organise to have a look this weekend at the van and go from there. It might need more work than I first thought, so I will go and inspect it. I consider all the people here friends so I will disclose with you that the van that has me in a spin is the Globetrotter Olfarts has found. I assume this would be a little bit easier for the Cortina to tow? P.S if anyone tries to cut my lunch here Olfarts and I will hunt you down and do hampster style kung fu on you, Havn't heard of it? trust me you don't want to know!!

Andrew,
Keep the first one, it really suits the FB better than Jezabel. Besides, your first is always your best!
Sell Jezabel, it will make Michelle happy and clear the way for the Globetrotter.
I am sure someone else will be happy to take it off your hands.
Wait, I got it. Sell Jezabel to your father!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cheers, Leigh.

Hi Andrew, Having seen photos of the G.T I would/did pass it up but as a retired chippy I just know there are easier vans to restore. I even saw a van like a g.t. on Sunday that looked better. may not be available though. Tonight I got a call about a Wayfarer, cheap. It needs work, may only be parts, but my point is they are out there and there are more vans than vintage vanners so dont rush. (just my opinion mind)
