has anybody ever replaced the metal striping on the corners of the vans? how do you bend it into shape to follow the curves without buckling it?
I'm talking about the angle? stuff? goes over the joins? presumably to weather proof the van.
Thank you

Hi Paddles.
Generally the corner moulding on ply vans is called a J mould, because thats the shape it is.
I,ve come across aluminium vans using the same section.
You can buy it from any aluminium supplier quite cheaply.
It is quite flexible, & can be easily fitted. When I installed it on my van I polished it by hand first, using 320 grit dry sandpaper. I then polished it using aluminium polish. Then I screwed one end where I wanted to start, with 3 off 3/4" 6 guage screws
I then bent it to touch the van side,& drilled & screwed every 150 to 200 mm.
With a bit of patience, it will bend smoothly around the corners of your van.
Some use sealant as they fit it. I didnt as my van had no cracks between roof & side sheets. You'll have to play that one by ear, every van is different.
Theres really nothing in repairing a van if you think before & as you go, because the original builders didnt have the tools, materials & technology we have.
Keep thinking simple & you'll find repairs are easy.
Its all fun

If you are like me and buy ally angle from the maker and find it doesn't bend you will need to anneal it. this requires an oxy set. First light your acetylene and let it burn with little or no oxy. This produces lots of soot. Paint this soot all over the angle by waving the torch along the angle. Now adjust your flame to "normal" and wipe the flame over the soot till it is all burned off. it will now be soft and bend around much tighter bends like the sharp ends of a globey roof. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO OVERHEAT THE ALLY WHEN BURNING OFF OR IT WILL DROP AWAY TO THE FLOOR WITH LITTLE OR NO WARNING !!!! 10mm angle cost me $27.00 for enough to do both sides of my 14' globey. Be careful if you ask for 'J' mould as this is different in that it has a long side (say 15 mm) and a shorter side (say 5-8mm) where as mine had 3/8" x 3/8" angle. Take a sample Good luck Beetles
