G'day Sutcac, Great photos - thanks for posting them. Regarding the aluminium van behind the ute, it looks to me as if the ally cladding was "after-market" judging by the locations of the joins. Is that the way it looked to you? The van with the unusual verandah over the back window and the surfboard number plate holder at the rear was on Ebay a while ago, but has obviously had a bit of a makeover (with positive results). "Before" pics: We've speculated before on the function of the verandahs fore and aft. I seem to remember that the consensus was that they were to do with ventilation. Were you able to check the van out, and do you have any fresh information in that regard? Don Ricardo

Hi Don Ricardo.Well spotted. The yellow 'verandah' van is now the mauve van. Didn't get much time to check either van out Someone suggested the the ally van could possibly be a Don........... Did Dons have a name plate attached to the van on the lower right side of the door?. There are screw holes in this location. Will take more photos next time that I see this van ( could be a while ) Cheers, Sutcac.

Hi Sutcac, No, the ally isn't a Don. There are quite a few points of difference but I won't bore everyone by listing them. Yeah, I know...I'm learning! ;D ;D ;D The nameplate on the leadlight window Dons were located on the body, adjacent to the left hand bottom corner of the door, but not on the door itself. May i draw your attention to one slight oversight.... You failed to notice that Clyde has picked up 2 new meter maids Reddo, I thought that went without saying - it's Sutcac and his magnetic personality we're talking about here! Don Ricardo

Hi, its Bill Wintersun, as said by all.... great event. Difficult to believe it could be lost to Coolangattta. (For details there's a statement in the Official Program. I've put a small set of Wintersun snaps up (about 25) for friends. Its a mixed bag with mostly the cars, some hot-rods, couple of vans, the parade, etc. Can't remember bigger crowds and one had to be 'all-elbows' to get the photos. There are a couple of photos of the beaut Airstream that was on show in Marine Parade on Saturday. For sale but at a fairly hefty price ($29.5K). May be covered elsewhere. Spoke to the Holden guys with the vans and told them about the great VV site. Hope they catch up with us. Both from the Redlands in Brisbane The photos: s564.photobucket.com/albums/ss85/spyca45/Wintersun2009/The Airstream:

Hi All, Well its over for another year. I took a few shots of several vans that were at Kirra Beach Caravan Park, but not a lot else. This little bondy was towed up from Bendigo. Apparently it has been stored undercover most of its life. This alloy van was built in 67 according to its owner, but unsure what brand. We set off with Lucille & our Sunliner up to Coolangatta for the weekend. Boots towed our Sunliner on her own, & managed well. She's pretty happy with Red as a towcar, & pretty confident now to tow. We had a good trip & weekend. Everything on Lucille worked as I hoped, & it towed great. Its got a slight bit of a lean to the side carrying the battery & annex, but the fridge should balance that up when its installed. This woodie teardop was on display. It was built on a caravan chassis, & has a queen sized bed inside. Very different. But still a teardrop with the rear kitchen. I've also got lots of my favorite cars in pix, but this forums about vanning. JBJ

Some good pics there JBJ, Lucille looks awesome! It would have been a great sight to see all the VV's travelling in convoy in the cruise!
Yeah I know JBJ we're all about vanning, but wouldn't it be ok to sneak a few car pics in Vintage tow cars or Whatever? After all, you can't have a horse without a carriage!

I was there on Sat afternoon, Sorry I did'nt see all the vans my legs were killing me! There were so many cars... I thought the Woodie Teardrop was interesting and nearly knocked myself unconcious on the tailgate. Geez that hurt.
If all goes well next year hopefully I'll make an attendance with my VW and T.D.
Cheers

The canopy looks great on Lucille. Love the colour coordination. Another really nice touch.

Hi All, Well I am back in Sydney now and completely exhausted. ;D ;D ;D I've been to more than 10 Wintersuns and this one was by far the best. Sorry I don't have a camera at present so wasn't able to take any photos. Thanks to the 20 or so forum members that turned up at Twin Towns on Saturday afternoon for a cuppa and a chat it was lovely to catch up with you all again. Talk soon Di

Post from JBJ transferred from AA Marine Ply thread:
Hi All, Due to thousands of requests, I'll post my selection of towcars 60 De Soto Late 40's Aussie bodied International ute. Very radical & well built Mid 50's Buick. There were dozens of them it seemed 59 Imperial by Chrysler 59 Lincoln Continental & 58 Buick Riviera This Aussie delivered 64 Dodge had just enough horsepower to tow a propert Real nice mid 50's Hudson. I've seen this one before. thats just a few of the supposed 1300 cars there on display. All were loved for various reasons, but its still the biggest car show I know of in Australia JBJ

Hi Cruz... No.... i don't think you will be going to Valla. New owners want it full of permanent "Done Rootins"... no more hosting runs and events for special interest groups like rodders and vintage bike clubs etc. The Coffs Harbour Restore and ride club just held thier annual rally at Sawtell after 8 years at Valla. Not totally convinced that the decision to move was because of the pensioner village theoryt ... but the bike movement where adiment that Valla is on the way down the gurgler. Shame really. great spot, good ammenitys.. and that great old woolshed /hall for presentation night... another icon lost Reddo
