Hi Folks
An update on my 1966 Olympic, I finally found someone to sort out my old caravan as the miserable half was just as clueless as me. It was divorce or get the caravan sorted, I think a divorce would have worked out cheaper!!!.
In a vain attempt to help out I am now cleaning the window frames with fine wire wool and a tin of mothers aluminum polish. How the long winter nights fly by. I still have pit marks in the frame which I take it are caused by the rain? I tried jet washing but they refuse to leave. Any ideas of how to get rid of them? or are they just wear and tear?
The miserable half will be doing the welding and the painting underneath and I'm painting the inside. I have one layer of acrylic paint on the fibre glass what's the best way to remove it?
Fingers crossed we should be ready to go in the next few months. I have a feeling that after a few weeks in the caravan with the miserable half I might be wishing I'd gone for the divorce.
really enjoy the wit and banter of this site, keep up the good work
One more comment I am always drawn to old things, caravans, cars, houses, furniture, books etc. Could I ask if you are all of a similar persuasion?

I'm impressed you are only aiming at a 'few months' to get on the road. Ive convinced my misses it wont be until next year we hit the tar (didn't say when next year)... but so far she is happy with the time I'm taking and the $$ I'm spending.
Well see how long that lasts

Hi Cluelessharon Welcome to the forum. You don't have to be mad to buy an old caravan but I think it may help Concerning your window frames the pitting can be due to acid rain and long exsposure to the elements. I got rid of the pitting on my window frames using a good metal polish ( available at auto parts stores ) not cheap but does a good job when used with lots of elbow grease, if pitting is deep then steel wool seems the go unfortunately it leaves a lot of scratches which still need to be polished out . To acheive a smooth shiny finish takes lots of time but worth aall the effort when you stand back admiring your shiny window frames Keep focused on the end result , remember anyone can eat an elephant it takes time and small bites. Love to see photos if possible Regards Foxy
