Here we are feeling a little down as we are heading home from a couple of weeks on the Gold Coast. We decided to stop early for the day, we drove into the Top Tourist Caravan Park at Goondiwindi and as we were parking we saw this Got a bit closer, much to the horror of my wife. The photos do not do this one justice….. Good job JBJ One cannot go anywhere without having at least 1 Olympic attend Sorry Chris no one would take part in a group hug ;D Yep they are having a good time. Pity I am heading home.. Have a good one folks Bobt

Hi All,
well its fun out here in SW Qld . We are in Surat today.
Theres 6 of us travelling. The towns are a long way apart, & Sutcac's toy truck keeps running out of petrol. But someone always gets him running again.
Taking lots of pix old old cars & trucks to post when we eventually get back end of next week.

Hi JBJ,
Lucille must be turning heads wherever you guys go, she is a truly beautiful old girl, a credit to you both.
I thought your Sunliner was pretty special, but the Beautiful Lucille really is something.
Can't wait to catch up with you guys at Coledale & meet Lucille in person

Hi All,
Just got back from a great 11 days on the road towing Lucille behind Red the Valiant, on sutcacs retirement tour ( or something like that)
Started Saturday morning. Left Alstonville in drizzling rain.Drove out thru Casino, up to the Highlands at Tenterfield, then down to the river flats along the NSW /Qld border town of Texas.
Sunday morning short drive to Goondiwindi, where we stayed 2 nights.
We were joined by Sutcac & Barbara in Fugly towed by his 46 Chev ute, John in his EH Premier & early 60’s Bundaberg built Sunliner, & Richard & Pam in their Olympic Riviera & 4wd, then David & Lynne in their bondy towed by 4wd.
Run into Bobt & partner on their way home from a sunshine break. Nice to put faces to names.
Tuesday off to St George, where Neil & Cheryl caught up to us with their Rowvan towed by 4wd.
Wednesday off to Surat, where most of us watched the footy.
Thursday off to Meandarra, where we camped til Sunday.
We were joined by Dosse & Ilse in their Don & Humber, & on Sat Andrew ( Smut 57) drove down from Chincilla for the the day with his Bondy & 4wd, with his parents in a camper.
Sunday we all parted ways, with some going home & some heading to Dalby. We went through Tara, & up to Chinchilla, then Dalby. Stayed Sunday night with Sutcac & Barb, John, & David & Lynne as company
Monday set off home. Drove to Oakey, then Pittsworth, Millmeran & camped at Inglewood.
Tuesday Morning decided straight home, via Texas. Tenterfield, Casino, a short detour to look at the Cruisemaster, then Lismore to see how the repairs on the fornt of my hotrod were going, & home.
Nice easy laid back 11 days, with just over 1630 kms according to Travelmate.
It was great travelling & camping with great like minded people. I’ll post my pix & comments over the next few days in progressive sections.

;D ;D ;D Sounds like a great trip Dennis. Isnt travelling, touring and camping with these old cars and vans a major part of what this forum is all about....?? Nothing like a few days away using your van ( tow n go) to recharge the restoration batterys and renew the enthusiasm in the hobby. But then again... ...there is no place like home sweet home where ya dont have to line up for a poop or a shower. ;D Reddo

Ilse and I joined the tour on Thursday going via Toowoomba, Dalby, Tara and onto Meandarra, approx. 700km round trip. Had a great time. Good to see how the country folk do things out there. Here are a few photos from the weekend. Lyn made some great Damper. Tally & Jessie Our vans in the procession This person got a bird's eye view of the procession But not as good a view as these people would have Richard making toast over the fire Andrew's Van How funny was this ;D ;D David was having some starting problems with his car, so we unhooked the van and gave him a push. Not realizing that the 4x4 was disconnected, Clyde started to push the van and couldn't figure why it wouldn't move. Regards dosse and Ilse

Hi All, Well we left home in the rain on the Saturday morning around 10am., towing Lucille. Halfway up the range to Tenterfield the sun came & we stopped for a coffee on the road. Magnificent forest scenery up here in the NE NSW & highlands. ' Got to Tenterfield just about lunchtime, so kept going west. eventually ended up at Bonshaw on the NSW side of the state border. As we needed fuel, we pulled into the only servo. Right in front of us was this home made bondy. Its probably early 50's, & is rapidly approaching fall to pieces stage. As usual the owner thinks its worth heaps, & hes going to restore it one day, blah, blah, blah. So we drove a bit further & spent a nice quiet night at Texas, just over the border of Qld, on the Dumeresq River. Next day its off to Goondiwindi, home of Gunsynd the great racehorse, cotton crops, & more grain growing than I realised. The country looks great after some recent rains. We stopped for a coffee at Tranquil. It was beautiful countryside Boy the roads are long. flat & straight out in southern Qld. Got to Goondiwindi, & set up in the Top Tourist caravan park. Very nice park. As we had a days wait for the Qld mob to haul out to us, we had a look around town. This is the Macintyre River & bridge Nearby was a historic museum, with so much stuff inside you couldnt look at most of it. Its temporary home to the Aust. Rodeo Riders Society, & their historical documents & stuff. Its a shame that section couldn,t be displayed as it it deserves, at least in my opinion. The others caught up on Monday, & details of Monday at Gundy are in other posts . We left to go to St George, with an option of camping at Nindigully, about halfway. When we got there all the others had decided to continue to St George. So we're cruising into St George, & up front is Fugly on the side of the road. Sutcac's Chevy has run out of fuel AGAIN. We had a big discussion on the bank of a cotton irrigation canal. I couldn't ( & still cant) understand why he didnt carry enough backup up fuel after the first 3 runouts. This time he'd run out, put his 5 litre backup in, then run out again So we set up in St George & were immediately told of a big old truck yard on the edge of town. We went & looked, but NOTHING for sale. Its a recurring theme we came across in our tour. Older guys with massive collections of cars & trucks, some well into the hundreds, with no chance of them ever being restored or saved, & nothing at all for sale. I know the stuff is their property, & all that, but its a shame to me because eventually someone inherits it that doesnt want it & hello china goes a big chunk of our heritage. Well thats enough for this post. Should fit the next few days in tomorrow nights installment Its all fun JBJ

Hi Dennis and boots., Dossie Thanks for the great photos. I know it all takes time transferring photos from camera to photobucket and then on to the forum thread... then all the typing that goes in between. I am sure i speak on behalf of all of us when i say......Much appreciated Looks like a great time had by all. Great shots of the vans with the balloons overhead. It worries me to see irreplaceable collections of memrobilla ( Rodeo riders stuff ) being stored in old houses / museums with little or no fire detection / supression systems. Only takes a stray spark , discarded smoke butt and all that history can be lost in an instant. They lost millions of pounds worth of vintage motorcycles in the British Motorcycle museum in England a while back. All due to someone sneaking a smoke outside the back door and flicking the butt into a pile of empty cardboard boxes stacked against the museum wall......... Great shots of the vans in the procession... that sutcac has scored a ring in van i see.. did he make it to the end of the street without a refuel ;D ;D ;D The truck graveyard.... .... all we can do is look and weep. At least you where fortunate enough to be allowed to photograph them...... I think anyone that has been on one of the road trip / tours would have to agree that they are every bit as good ( if not better) than putting down the van anchor and staying in the one spot for a get together. Sure... it means packing a bit of gear away each day . But it becomes second nature and easier as the days roll on. The impromtu roadside cuppas can be a real bonus too..Not only does it give you a break from driving to have a stretch and unwind..... often pull up and spot things besides shed that ya would normally blast straight past Keep the photos coming dudes.. hi dennis and dosse
great photos guys and it looks like the retiree's tour was a huge success.
being (part) retirees, we wish we could have been there with you but unfortunately not.
how did you get involved in the street parade, was it a coincidence or was it planned?
keep the photos coming.

Hi Geoff & Jude
Sutcac's got inlaws out there ( Barbs sister & her husband, etc) so as they are involved we got involved. It was great. Hardest part is getting time to get back into work that piled up while I took a break, & finding time to post some of the many pix we took.

hi dennis
work does seem to get in the way of having a good time, doesn't it.
just keep remembering, the more work you do, the more money you get to put away for another van weekend.

G'day to all on the Retiree's tour, Looks like everyone had a great time. Dennis Lucille is a credit to your hard work, she looks fantastic. Thanks to all for the happy snaps, very much enjoyed in this household. Pity about the old truck graveyard, certainly is a waste of our transport heritage. Cheers Bob and Jacqui.

Hi All, Remainder of our trip. Left St George on Wednesday morning for Surat, & stayed in a basic park in a little town. They had a Cobb & Co museum Just out of town was a section of the old coach road fenced off. looked at a typical road train. They are everywhere out there. This would be fun reversing Next day set out for Meandarra. Stopped at Glenmorgan & looked at Montys Garage Car Museum. He has heaps of cars on display, & over 100 stored waiting to restore. He also has over 30 ton of new old stock spares. Much of his stuff is for sale, & worth chasing him for parts. Reckoned he didnt any damaged Jailbar grilles I could buy from the 60 odd old trucks he had, but sold Sutcac a bumper for the front of his Chevy, & Richard some new 5" sealed beams. He's got pistons, gearsets, electrical, for all sorts of cars & trucks. He said everything is for sale except for where he wants the bits to restore a vehicle himself. His contact is : John Haken, PO Box 11, Glenmorgan 4423, mobile 0418786850,fax 0746656829, email montysgarage@bigpond.com Set up in Meandarra. Gee the fees were heavy. They ripped us off for $10 for 3 nights total (powered sites & new showr block/laundry) Had a blast, but the nights were real cool. Big frosts each morning. After Lyn made great damper in someones camp oven, most of us kicked in & bought a lump of roast & made a great stew. Leftovers were used in jaffles for next 2 days. Saturday procession, a couple more pix. Monty has a collection of military vehicles, including the Dodge Power Wagon & the Bike. Nicely restored jeep & cannon. No Proccession without the Scotties. This band had a rager of a drummer, a big young guy that got so wound up he was nearly dancing on the spot. Saturday night a band was on. They fired the hot air balloon in the street, & it was pretty wild to watch. Sunday we all parted ways, & my camera decided it wanted a rest. We drove down to Tara, & looked at a panelbeaters yard with over 100 old cars. A lot are available, but not real cheap considering how far away they are. I'm buying a complete Dodge for spares off him soon. He had masses of Austins, some vintage stuff ( mainly Essex) Chev trucks, & a fair range. I'll take pix when I go & get the Dodge soon Not far from that was a Sunliner in a yard, & David Forman checked it out. Probably for sale. Went into Chinchilla & chased a few leads I was given to no end. Run into Andrew again, then set off for Dalby. Stayed the night in a good park in town on the Myall River.Sutcac, John, & David & Lyn were with us. Next Morning separated for Home. Looked thru a real big truck wreckers on eastern side of town, & a scrap/wrecking yard. At the truck wreckers are hundreds of old truck cabs in salvageable condition. Only problem is the guy running appears to have inherited it, & his prices are a bit steep (to me) Drove thru Oakey, Millmerran, & to Inglewood , where we stayed overnight at a real ordinary caravan park. David had told us about a Dodge he saw there on his way to Goondiwndi, but unfortunately it turned out to be earlier than mine. So next day we decided to drive straight home, & finished a great trip. We would do it again tomorrow if was on. But this time I'd take the battery charger for the camera as well. JBJ
