G'day everyone, Could I pls get some advice as to which would be the best v. caravan to tow behind my 1962 S series auto Valiant. The only constraint would be height of 2 metres max from ground to top. The van would only be a weekender for two people. Many thanks

Hi & welcome to the forum Thomo. A bit like, how longs a piece of string. What are your likes/dislikes as such? fibreglass, aluminium, wood,? Maybe a better guide can be seen looking through the makes/models in the Index or Members Photos. Cheers gordon

Thanks Gordon, I realise it's a long string but I guess I was after knowledge about build quality and towing stability etc. Will certainly look through the members' photos. And thanks Dave, 18 ft is too long. I had in mind a more modest 14fter. Cheers

Hi Thomo
You have created a problem in that you specify a height limit of 2 metres. You simply won't find a full van that low overall. What you seem to need is some sort of poptop, which didn't arrive till after the 1970's. Remember that any full van has an almost 2 metre head height, to which you have to add the height from the ground to the van floor.
Quite frankly, the only van I can think of is the Propert folding van which fold up to below 2 metres. I do remember a van appearing on this site some years back which had a sunken floor, which may have seen the 2 metre limit, but don't ask me what brand that was. Someone else might remember.
You may have to raise your garage roof to take one of the full vans.

Hi Thommo. Ever considered a Teardrop? 2mtrs & less in hight. Sleeps two very cosily!! Most have storage space internally for pillows, blankets etc.Kitchenette area can still hold all the stuff you`d have in a larger size `van. Light & easy to move about. cheers gordon

Thomo The others are right about the height. Most vans are 2 metres high inside plus the height of the floor off the ground plus the hatch. Where abouts are you located? I just upgraded from my teardrop to a 10 foot aluminium so have the teardrop for sale but if you are after a full van there have been a few good ones found of late. Rod G.

Thomo Something will come up so be patient and your local VV members will be happy to help get you on the road. RG
Suzann & Matt. I hadn't seen the Valiant before. Very neat. I supplied a set of whitewalls for a 70 coupe recently that was similarly in original condition & the owner was rapt with the transformation.
