Had a request about locations west of brisbane and closer to the border so am scouting around for future runs. Many years ago I had a big group at a Stanthorpe caravan park and on the saturday we had a small bus take us on a winery tour. I'll be having a close look around the Brisbane caravan show in June to get more ideas but thought someone may already have a favourite spot there. Toowoomba/Warwick/Stanthorpe etc are close to the New England for southern folk as well. Now I have the Munro I am keen to get out more often. Rod G.

I'd still like to keep a sunshine coast event for February but April of so go south west.(even later this year is a possibility) I have been told of a caravan park near Warwick that is a possibility so awaiting more details. Being close to the New England that would make it good for anyone travelling from south. For those coming from Brisbane we could have a meeting spot At Aratula on the Friday morning. The Brisbane caravan show is in June so will know more after that. Rod G.

Rollydog, Your post has brought back a long lost and totally "random" memory... In the summer of 1990 my father made me get a fruit-picking job in between finishing Year 12 and starting Uni. I stayed at a caravan park on the main highway heading south out of Stanthorpe. It was really rough but that was 19 years ago. I turned up on my first day at the job and the owner told me to go and have a shave. I was only 17 and it took me 3 weeks to grow 3 whiskers. I returned to the caravan park desperately looking for a razor. The parks daughter offered me one that they used to clip the hair around their prize heifer's nose before showing her. It was rusty, packed with hair...but I needed the job and the cash for uni. I shaved, packed on about 16 squares of 3 ply toilet paper for all the cuts and returned to the picking job. I jumped out of my car marched over to the owner very proud the sacrifice that I had made. He told me to get back in the car and get a hair cut . You just can't please some people. I wonder if it is still there??? The caravan park...not the heifer . HALPS Brisbane

Halps. My Stanthorpe trip was a horror as well. I had a Suzuki Sierra with a Toyota engine and used it to tow my 74 Chesney Kampa GT. The car played up before I left home so got away late. Went through a wild storm at Jindalee and lost a wheel ring on a cattle grid. Got to Stanthorpe too late to catch a mate there so up went the camper and down went the scotch. Am waiting to hear about the caravan park near Warwick that has received some good reviews. Brisbane caravan show in June should be a good way to check out some parks and by chance I have a day working there on the Federal tyre stand. Rod. ps. would love to know if the Kampa is still around. That was 1995 I sold it but it was distinctive over others. I changed the red striping to blue with big Chesney across the front and back and the Kampa GT logos redone in blue and silver. My first make over of any van

G,day Rod, This may be of some interest for a future weekend for the group. www.heavyhorseday.com It was on last weekend but is on every year about the same time . We went last year and had a great time. Stayed in a caravan park in Killarney. A great spot close to Warick. Another attraction close by is Queen Mary falls. Something to think about? Cheers see you at Neurum Creek, Bob and Jacqui.
