All is not lost Cobber and Donricardo It looks like I have a lead/contact on Elwin and his 1930s Don. He has contacted the trodler on OTPast and Richard has some photos taken last weekend which he will put on his site . I hope to contact Elwin this week and I will do the same here. Richard has told me Elwin has a fantastic collection of all sorts of stuff, so the pics should be of great interest to all our steptoe brethren out there!! jennison

Hi Jeff and Don. Dont get too excited just yet, its not a 1930's Don, more like a 55 or 56.
Cheers. Richard.

Yeah .. Elwin should have done some more research before proclaiming it to be a 1930s van. Good job Trodler knows what he is looking at aye... Sure saved us a few heart pulpitations. Reddo

gees Cobber. Thats a bit harsh. Poor ol Elwin is no vintage caravan officianado ( expert ) he just likes old caravans, and it just happens that his wife bought him the Don and the seller told her it was a 1930's job.
Cheers. Richard.

Apologies for that bum steer Cobber but good news is he is an interesting character nonetheless and will be featured on ABC Collectors in a couple of weeks regards jennison

Photos of Elwin's Don 140 caravan posted on behalf of Jennison with thanks to Vantoura: An interesting modification to the draw bar there - perhaps to allow the van to be towed by a truck? The serial number 1017, makes the van a 1956 build. However, as Mark T once remarked somewhat ruefully, this model Don was designed in the early 1930's and was built with precious few changes for the next twenty years, so in one sense it is quite accurate to call it a 30's van! ;D ;D ;D Having had this glimpse of Elwin's collection I'm looking forward to seeing more on the Collectors program when it comes up.
