Hey Dosse Sounds like Tallebudgera is the destination for the 12th SE Qld get-together. ;D ;D You are hereby elected as the non-coordinator.. It should be a good weekend with lots of activities available ... including the activity starting with "G" ( must be G for Golfing ?) rgds earlee.

hi All,
As you've probably noticed, Boots & I are a bit partial to enjoyable (near) beach front sites. Gee with something so close to us, I can tow the van up with Izzy hanging out the side riding shotgun in the hotrod, while Boots sedately motors up in the airconditioned Korean dogbox, that has (electric) windows. Then she can go g**a*g* s**ling with the other nutters, & I can carry the crap home in the back of my hotrod.
Nice sites like this one make choosing the out of the way sites difficult.
I was thinking of reddos comment about an annual event, at the same place each year.
If it is what we want to do, then maybe something could be planned along the lines of last years event at Canungra.
Its got nearly unlimited sites, & has good facilities, as well as being close to most of us. Its also got an enormous area of tourist & nature stuff around it. If we plan it right, it could cater for around 100 vans without difficulty , maybe more. Scarey thought isnt it, but not unbelievable after the numbers at Maroochydore. A long way in a short time.
My thoughts with the events is that the publicity is a fair bit incedental. Its not the most important part of what we enjoy.Certainly we should notify the local media, but if its not right in the centre of the city maybe the presence of media & spectators might be lower key. That would remove a lot of the effort that Rod had to put in at Maroochydore.
After all, we are doing this for ourselves, NO ONE ELSE.
Thats something to think about, because it would have to be timed to allow those who want to be part of Coledale & Reddo's east coast tour to participate in them if they wish.
It could even be around this time of the year, as against before christmas, to provide an opportunity for an east coast event alternative to thse that dont want to travel to the Riverland area for the nationals.
Not all of us want to tow for a week to get to an event, then a return long trip.
Boots & I will not be travelling to mildura area again in the foreseeable future. Its too far as part of a short trip. Maybe when I retire I will, but as a self employed person I dont get set holiday periods. I basically have to shut my business to travel away, & it hurts financially bigtime.
So much to do, & not enough time left to do it in, but its all fun.

hi All,
Boots, Izzy & I are booked in. We decided to book just a couple of sites down from the ones Dosse booked, after talking to the park manager & discussing the potential of a lot more vans than the 15 sites set as aside would accept. We're on the same "island" on site137.
We had to put up $50 as deposit, which is normal with the Gold Coast Council operated parks.
Come on you guys, get youre bookings in early & we should get most of us together, or pretty close.

Correct me if I'm wrong here (as if I needed to say that!)but I thought that Neurim Ck was the annual regular spot Doesn't really worry me, as I'm probably the closest to Neurim than anyone else on the forum, so to me it's no real travelling adventure, which I particularly enjoy. I agree with JBJ about Canungra. It was a great spot, and has the added advantage of a huge covered area in case it rains, which was really appreciated last year. I'm also not big on publicity etc, as for me it's the company of the members (oops, we're not a club ;D : that gives the value, not having to be around the van for a constant flow of lookers. It's nice to simply be able to do your own thing at these events. Just my 2 bob's worth Ray

Dosse Re Thunderbird Park. Don't think it has changed much from 20 years ago. There are actually 2 parks adjoining, which in itself is confusing, and one is cheaper than the other. Sites are quite small, and the Thunderbird Park facilities are less than Coledale - only 2 showers and two toilets for the whole park. Was even more ridiculous, when the cleaners closed the facilities at 8am for cleaning! Got hit with a $10 key deposit, and then found a sign on the facilities door telling us that the doors should not be locked due to the number of campers there - go figure!
A very handy spot for exploring the area, but the park is quite ho-hum.

Were from the sunny coast it would be great to have a get together there again. But I understand that you have done a few up this way. Big 4 caravan park on the river is fabulous or Coolum C/P or Noosa on the river or Mudjimba c/p there are so many, Cotton tree is another fabulous one beach, rver for fishing, shops walking distance or major shopping centre. Weve also been to Byron my favourite spot! The park called "First Sun" walking distance to shops pubs ect right in town. Right on the beach. Anyway would love to join you all. Hope our reno is copmleted by the time this all happens. Just don't forget don't book in holidays Sept ect wont get in and all so between May and September "Grey Nomads" allways travel North and cant get a spot anywhere from Byron to Cairns caravan parks are full! Just a bit of info for us to all think about cheers Mad.

Hi Earlee and all of the people that have made the queensland runs so successfull
I was just reading Earlees first post on page 1 of runs and events
under the heading "brisbane enthusiasts "
that he is in brisbane
are there any enthusiasts out there
suzann and schultzy send a reply and then Ray rhoem sends one to Earlee and thats how it started in brisbane
the early forum messages are all in tact and it is a lot of fun reading some of the early contacts and seeing how the forum has built a social network of like minded people when you see the amount of friendships that have been born out of Earlees single post telling us he is in brisbane
check out the early contacts in all states and it brings some interesting reading
when we look back at the great runs we have attended and all the great people we have met around Australia we are certainly indebted to the forum and its origins that started this amazing group

Hi all , we would highly recommend Tallebudgera, Boyds Bay, Evans head. All close to shops , fishing, and the amenities are very clean.

Hi Pete,
I cant get that link to work.
However I've found over the last few years that the Gold Coast City Council parks are extremely varied in the response the staff give, and not all bookings are made as you expect or hope.
I believe everyone should book by phone personally, & they then send you a receipt. Otherwise you could turn up thinking you had a booking, & find a full park.We still cant find out what sites we will have for Wintersun, & we booked over a year back. They "promise" me 2 adjoining sites, & thats all I can get out of them.
When we booked for Tullebudgera, they havent give us a site number on our receipt.

OK we are booked in to site 120. deposit paid and all confirmed. our little bondy passed rego today, no major test there. Easy in Queensland, under 750kg and no questions asked . We came in at 520 kg and we got to choose our own vin numbers, so birthdays came in handy for that ;D Then over to get a quote for an annex ???1.5hours later and we still didn't get a price. But now we know all there is to know about annexes, he's uncle and the mituzbushi that's got rust!!! So we are thinking we'll just get a tarp for now See you all at Neerum Creek and Tallebugera Kel, Donna and Madii

Hi All, Well its just about time to get serious on this one. We all have to book in individually. Unfortunately because its a council operated park, its the same as the other ones they operate, like Kirra. You cant find anyone to make a decision beyond the shift they are working at the time, or so it seems to me. I've downloaded a site map. Hope its readable. So far we are grouped together, on the left end of the two roads First & second avenue. This map must have been made by a seth effrikan, cause it has a Fith Avenue Ok I'll start a listing, & try to post or PM me your site number so we can see where we all end up. Maybe when you book you can ask to be sited with the other vintage vanners, who knows someone working there might have noted us on our bookings. As I read it to date: JBJ & Boots - Site 137 Dosse - Site 122 Pete & Trish - Site 121 Margra Sutcac Neil & Cheryl John & Lynne Kelskombi - Site 120 Banno & Joey - Site 135 Kids - Site 134 Tony & Terese - Site 130 David & Lyn Ben, Mindy & Ford - Site 95 Dianne - Site 117 Earlee - Site 133 As we mentioned earlier, these big Council parks fill up quickly. I'll keep updating this particular post if the computer allows me to. JBJ
