Hi, I've just found your site it's very interesting. I'm most impressed with minicampers Wildgoose replica and Mk1 Mini tow car. Very nice. I have the real Wildgoose. I'm the other side of the world to you guys though...In England ;D

Hi Bill773mini. First up...along with cobber and a few others i welcome you to the aussie vintage van forum I love your van. ;D It really is something different it has a beautiful shape about it and the stripe with moulding really sets it off. . You can be very proud to be the owner of a very unique little van. Someone has thought "outside the square" when they designed these vans and they have come up with a great little set up. You have brought a breath of fresh air to our website. Reddo

G'day bill773mini (do you mind if we just call you Bill ? ) Thanks for posting those interior photos, I dare say a 'van like that has it's ups and downs.... sorry but they are certainly worth preserving just to show how things have evolved to where we are today. When the top half is up what prevents water... or snow today... from running down between the walls and ...... what made the bike wheel go around and around, I imagine it was just an external thing like a crank handle . That link I gave you above... did you get to look at page 3 ? it shows a “Wildgoose” based on a Mini.. or do you have one of those too ? Cobber.

Bill is just fine, thanks for the kind words. The company Wildgoose started making motor-homes in Worthing on the south coast of England based on Mini Vans in 1962, they made appox 51 up till the late 60's 14 are known to survive. They made two types, VEB (Vertical Elevating Body) with a crank handle that fitted in a hole on the O/S (you can see the hole behind the wheel in the second photo down in the original pictures) later on they used a mini starter motor from a button on the dash to raise the roof. The other type had a hinged roof at the front. In about 1964 they decided to make a touring caravan version, they made a prototype with VEB which appeared in all their literature and then two other ones of the hinged fabric type. So three in total, the two hinged type vans have been lost in the 40 odd years that have passed leaving just this one VEB, the prototype... ;D That is my van in the brochures.

Hi Bill Truly an amazing set up. Love the unterior lay out. Did you know the American Mechanics magazine published plans for an enlarged version of the tear drop called a "Wild Goose" in 1953 This link takes you to copies of the plans.. www.angib.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/teardrop/tear36.htmTo me the English version is much nicer. Thank you for sharing the photos. bobt

G'day Bill Thanks for sharing that information on the “Wildgoose” mate... you must be really chuffed to have the only surviving VEB caravan in existence. I'm sure I've seen similar “motor home” conversions of the hinged type done over here, ... I'll see if I can find some photos. Did you pick up a copy of the January 2009 “Best of British” magazine, it has a two page spread on the history of the “Dormobile” with lots of nice photos. Cobber.
