Have just spoken to the previous owner (daughter of the builder) and she is extremely happy that the van is being saved........she is going to give me more info on the van's history in the next few months and is very keen to keep in contact and look at the van as restoration happens over the next few years ;D ;D ;D ;D By the way, here is a coffin handle mentioned on the original posting.............. should polish up nicely ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Daggsey

Dont let the arrival of Morticia on the scene lead you too far away from "Lady Madonna and her Travels" Great van mate. Reddo

Mark, We couldn't get into the van as no key came with it. Photos were taken thru the roof hatch which was to small for any of us to get thru. Didn't want to brake into the van,got to keep on Daggys good side, hahaha. Gem

Nice one Daggsey,
I think Reddo will suggest putting a few dozen more leaf springs in the rear?
As for that gas light, its the same as the one that's in Forby, the Highway ex commercial van that introduced my to VV's (and it works perfectly) It came with a spare mantle in a box, a preformed element on a ceramic? ring that fits onto the light fitting, but a modern tie/clip on will also work.
Cheers Chris

Hi Daggsey.. you wrote.. "Now, about those ride-levellers....what were you saying again Reddo?? "
I am sticking to my guns Daggsey. You use load levellers to straighten up a van that big on the back of an average car and you will break the towcars bum off.
Get it down onto some 14" rims and then see what the towball weight is. If it is stilll heavy then i would go a Jones hitch coupling rather than load levellers.
Now stop burleying me up until i bite .....and get home and restore the bloody thing... Oh bye the way .. Love the van mate. ;D

Hi Daggsey Think I would go the Brougham no matter what condition the ute is. Maybe you could do an engine transplant. Brougham with the SS efi motor should get you excited. How is your son? Ute looks nasty on the driver's side

Daggsey, your son seems to have an "attraction" to trees ;D ......if I my cell destroyed brain serves me correctly, your son also recently wiped out an almighty VK Commo The twisted tin & metal doesn't matter, so long as he is OK The tree will recover, the Commo won't Mark

Thanks folks for the thoughts for my son.........luckily for him, a badly sliced upper right arm requiring many stitches and damaged pride This is the untouched motor and drive train............ Ute is written off, so had seriously considered the drive train for my HT Monaro...............the old problem of "performance" v "originality" reared it's head........."originality" won the day, so back to re-building a 186s. Mark.........the VH Commie was written off by number 3 son. Number 1 son has had his skirmishes in the past.......an "L" series Suburu wagon written-off (by someone else). Neil......the thought of that drive train in the Brougham also crossed my mind, but, once again, the decision had to be made......"performance" v "originality"........if it makes you feel better, number 2 son's towcar for picking up his wrecks is a Toyota I'm sure that in the case of a towcar for "Morticia", the biggest single issue is not necessarily going to be the power, but the rear suspension. Hi Daggesy Yep it is good to hear your son did not sustain any significant injury. I crimped the fuel line in my youngests first car to slow him down. ;D ;D That car is now gone....(SOLD) Now I keep my fingers crossed. I recon you should bolt that running gear into the ej. beef the rear end up. That will solve the problem. It will not hurt to have at least one that is non original... Mark I convince my ol' man back in the 70's that fords were better than 202 HQ's. He has had fords ever since and now I have one of each!!! ;D ;D
