At 12 midday yesterday we had nothing planned to celebrate the New year.... Just sit at home and goof off.
My eldest son Luke , his girl Sarah and a heap of thier mates head up to Mount Sugarloaf near here each New years eve and set up camp in the lookout carpark.
From there you can see about 20 miles up and down the coast. Its a great vantage point to watch all the different towns let off thier fireworks....
Also not having any nieghbours to complain about the partying is an added bonus.
So... we hooked up "Rosie" and took off up the Mountain which is only 2 miles as the crow flys from our back door.
It was 34 degrees at 4.00 yesterday arvo. We made it up the mountain about 10 mins later.... a pleasant 24 degrees at the lookout
The photos dont do this spot justice.......
the blue haze in the distance is the pacific Ocean off Newcastle... about 12 miles in a straight line from the mountain.
Didnt take long for the son and the rest of his crowd to turn up in thier 4X4s ... on with a bit of John Williamson, Lee Kernigan ... the akubra ... and we yippee-i-ode ( Ok then... you spell it
)
late into the night
.
Bro Jeff turned up in his freshly complete Black Morris Major ... stayed for a couple of beers and then headed home to round up the missus and come back....Never seen him again.... Must have got the shackles on when he got home
.
Rosie acted as a nursery for the grandaughter ... warming up baby bottles on the cooker... She had Old Grumps' bed until way passed midnight...
Got a bit cool and Luke had forgot to pack some socks for hannah.
So I came to the rescue with a bit of old ingenuity to keep her warm...
Stuffed her into an old potato sack
...
T'was the wee small hours when i finally made it to the van... fell backwards out the door and bent my precious old tin Malleys esky all outta shape with me right knee..... We straighten the esky .... but the knee will be outta commission for a while.
Woke up this morning with a thumping head ache... boiled up the billy , scoffed down a cuppa...
fed the locals.....
and headed home...
So... there ya go..... a great night out .. too many beers....
Does this make us the first to use our vintage van in 2009.
;D
Happy New Year all of ewes.....
;D
