Rod, what a great cause that is, raising money to donate to Wildlife Victoria, to assist with injured animals from the recent bushfires ........a good cause indeed and with all those industry heavyweights around, ;D .....please pomote "vintagecaravans.com" where possible. Daggsey .....do the Queenslanders have a banner? Mark

Mark
I'll send you an email to get some stickers as I haven't got one as yet plus I am trying to find a 13 inch spare wheel cover for the van so i can get the wording put on there. The possible questions the radio station will ask include what website should people look at for more info and I am including that with the various info pieces i give to the media. A way to guage will be the number of hits on the group site after the weekend.

Hello Rod, I am afraid to say that we will have to back out of the Maroochy weekend as my leg swells to enormous proportions just walking from house to garage. Hope to see you all at the 11th getaway week end. All the best to everyone and enjoy yourselves. Paul & Yoko

Hiya Swellwillys.... Ummm...... i am one of the fortunate ones that aint gotta polish and spit on nothing in preparation for the 10th annual Hillbilly Lifestyle festival I have been flat out tryin ta trash Halps' van so it looks like a Hippy bachelor pad. Left a tin of baked beans , Tin of spagetti and a tin of spray can bright yellow on the gas cooker for an hour today. I waited till i heard the 3 explosions then opened the door.... the result....... COSMIC MAN....Lumpy fluoro orange Tie dye interior ....sorta like upside down exposed aggregate with strands of spagetti hanging form the ceiling..... I think i am gunna enjoy interior decorating these old vans.... By the time i spend a few days on the road and hang all my stinkin soxs ande undies around the windows ... the Halps van is gunna be a show stoppa...... ;D ;D ;D ;D.. Ummm ... oh yeah .. just found out ya cant let those porta pottis run "Full tank" either.... makes a hellova mess on the lino when ya go round a roundabout Fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffhhhhhhheeeeeeeww.. I might wait until it all "sets" and then shovel it out... Waddya reckon Halps... First prize or wot!!!! Old mate .. Reddo

Reddo, you are talking my language.
Obviously you too experienced schoolies or you were a member of the local footie club. Your description brings back so many memories for me. I think I will join you. It will be like my old uni days...
Reddo, should I come with or without my clothes on?

Hi Swellwillys,
I dragged the Sunliner out of the carport & hosed it down.
Its stored right alongside Lucille, to who I'm busy fitting interior bits & sanding & painting.
It gets pretty grotty , but it washes off.
Still in primer, & probably will be for a long time.

Swellwillys No time to pretty it up. My Munro hits the road for the first time tomorrow when i take it to work. This will give a test as to how the Hunter will tow it. I'll throw it on the hoist to get some more wheel clearance in the guards but hopefully it will be OK. Got a stove at the local markets yesterday but still some other work to be done. Hopefully you will be there Thursday Reddo as that will be the first chance to put up the annex etc. At this stage the teardrop hasn't had any bids so I am still looking at an extra trip to get it up there. Just working out some media stuff tonight but I tihink all the rest is done. Not long to go now. Rod G.

We've never been to any of your gatherings yet, but it sounds like you will be a bunch of Lucky Ducks up there at Maroochydore. Sounds like you will have a great time! We recently bought a lovely red laminex table off Ebay from people who turned out to be Vintage vanners and they're off to Maroochydore as well! Unfortunately we're in the middle of planting now. Have a great time, hopefully we will meet you all, next get together! Cheers Cathie & Rob

Sutcac About you said something good. Lets replace the Holden with a Ford.
All looks good so far. weather is predicted to go our way. My van just fitted on the hoist last night as I trimmed the inside of the guards back a little to gain some extra clearance for the wheels. At this stage I am looking at towing the van up with the Patrol on Thursday afternoon and then doing a quick run home early Friday morning (real early) to grab the Hillman and the teardrop so that I can meet everyone at the pub. ( if anyone has an extra car thsre on sunday morning and can tow the teardrop back to the northside of brisbane let me know as it will save a bit for me on sunday)
I have received official sanction from Wildlife Victoria to fundraise for them this weekend (donatioin tins) so if you have a stuffed toy koala or Wombat or other native animal bring it along and put it in front of the van or on a table etc to identify our fundraising to help wildlife Victoria care for the native animals rescued from the bushfires.
IU have asked the caravan park to provide some recycling bins for the barbeque area as I am sure there will be a few stubbies and cans consumed over the weekend and I'd like to see us do the right thing with recycling (am I sounding like a greeny ?)
My normal email is playing up again so if you need to PM me please phone the mobile 0417 620877 as I may have limited computer access for a few days.
Media interest is growing so some news and print coverage is expected.
To reaffirm a few things.
Those meeting at Etamogah Pub on Friday from 10am (or a few minutes before) till 11.30am meet in the front bar area. I'll give you site maps so that if we arrive at the caravan park in convoy the boom gate will be open and you drive stright to your sites and then fix up the management for site fees and gate passes etc.
Look forward to having a great weekend.
Rod G.

John and Lynne Just phone me to confirm the site number for the Don and I'll modify the list tonight. If anyone knows of any extra vans or people to the list let me know so that I can get things sorted . Also when you pay your site fees etc there will be a list there for people for dinner at the surf club at 6.30pm Friday night. Just write the number of people beside your names so that I can get accurate numbers to the club by late afternoon. Rod G

Hi Rod. You wrote: " if anyone has an extra car there on sunday morning and can tow the teardrop back to the northside of brisbane let me know as it will save a bit for me on sunday" I am happy to do that for you if Halps doesnt require me to tow his van back down to his place when (if) i leave sunday. We can sort it out when i get up there and talk with Halps. Great idea with the wildlife appeal and the fluffy toy to ID the supporters. Will strap a real live cattledog on the drawbar before i leave home. Will also pledge at least 3 cartons worth of empty stubbys over the weekend to the "greenybins" I suspect living next to the Sutcacs there may well be the odd empty bottle with the big white bear on the side as well All going to plan........on the road heading north 7:00am tomorrow morning. Only one thing better than vintage caravans.. and that is vintage caravanning. Reddo

Reddo and Dossie I don't know whether to laugh or worry about comments from you two. To keep my instructions clear Reddo- No cattle dogs Dossie No road kill. Reddo That may work out well. I can have someone meet us on the gateway road if it is easier to keep you on the road as well. My van is now registered in my name and I am heading home to pack. Cheers Rod G. & all the best in recovery to Paul. Having had a broken ankle a few years back and run over my dogs with the wheel chair, fell down the stairs twice and then get dragged through the ringer when I set off a metal detector at a government building I realise it is not fun. Rest up and enjoy the photos we post next week !

Hi all,
Already up in Mooloolaba and enjoying the great weather. Sooooooo looking forward to catching up with everyone on the weekend. ;D ;D
When we were at Coledale last year, "Winterwood" (who was on his first forum trip) made comment that it was a shame that everyone wasn't wearing name tags. That he found it quite hard remembering everyones real name and putting faces to names since he was used to seeing user names and especially with it being such a large group.
As this 10th SE Qld get together is also going to be on a large scale and as it appears as though there are going to be quite a few new people in attendance - what do you think, should we do up name tags?
Just something along the lines of First Name and User Name i.e.:-
Diane 1954homemade
I would have offered to do them up for everyone, but as I am already away I don't have the same computer and stationery access. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, even just a handwritten piece of paper and a safety pin.
I know we are not a club and this may be seen as a "Club" thing, but I think it will be very helpful to everyone.
Regards Di

Good luck for your 10th "get together"

Good idea Di, I'll try and remember to get some Stick on name tags because my eyes are already dragging and by Friday I'll have forgotten my own name.
Reddo - See what time you kick off on Thursday and give me a call on 0417 620877. I hope to get out of home at 1.30pm. That would put me at Maroochydore easily by 3 but if we timed it right we could get to the Etamogah a day early and have a beer on the balcony to ease the trip.
Rod G. ps this is the last trip under hillmansafari new forum name to come later.
