Samsgarage01 asking what to do with "Plasply"
thank you so much for the old advert for the Cumberland Coach! I've just been given one and apart from the stunning red Cumberland sign I had no idea about it! I want to restore it. Any ideas on restoring the exterior of plas-ply (whatever that is!) and aluminium, it's been painted over a few times.
G'day Samsgarage01,
We don't seem to have acquired much information about “plasply” except to say that it is similar to another product called “rescote”.
Apparently “Plasply” came in two colours..... black on softwood ply, and dark red on hardwood ply that was mostly used for form work.
If your plywood is in good condition I think I would give credit to the “plasply” plastic coating, and I would be reluctant to remove it.... which is what will happen if you use a heat gun or paint stripper to take the old paint off. Best to use elbow grease and an orbital sander.
Can you post some photos of your van so we can see what she looks like ?.
Apparently something similar to "Plasply can be obtained from "Australian wood Panels" www.awpanels.com.au/ if you need it......... not sure I would bother

As knowledge as gained it is necessary to modify threads...... this is a modification
Reswood..... Rescote......Plasply
Some times life gets complicated.
The way I read this add. is.... “Reswood” is not plastic coated...... if it is, it's called “Rescote”. Sometimes “Rescote” is referred to as “Rescote Plasply” (only in the first add.).
So for those of us who have been inquiring as to what the difference is between “Plasply” and “Rescote” ........... now we know ..... none, I thought they were competing companies.
