Just a quick post to introduce myself My name is Ash and as my name suggests I have an Olympic Riviera. Live in the Newcastle area & work just up the road from Reddo's place by the looks of it!!!! ;D My dear old van is a 16ft Riviera I bought off a mate about 8yrs ago........and could possibly have been owned by boblor at one stage, my mate said he purchased it off a gentleman at Valentine (or nearby he thought) who seemed to have quite a passion for old cars& vans. The rego plate is RK-5155 and I think the chassis number is 0164602670. Maybe some other members on here could shed some light on the matter. She's still regoed & in fairly good shape.....just going to embark on some resto/modernation so she can be used as a family van by my wife, 16 month old daughter and myself. Hope to hear from some of you soon

Hi Ash Your Riviera is safe mate.
I have had about 4 or 5 Sunliners over the past 4 years. Wife bought an Olympic Debonair a few years back. I find them way too slippery. I cant seem to hang on to any of them.
Only thing that sticks in my yard is Bondwood vans
By the sounds of things Humpty knows a bit of the history behind your van. Good luck with the work on it. Your family will enjoy vintage vanning Holidays in the Olympic.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I actually know your brother Jeff, reddo.....I work at out of town 4wd and Jeff is doing all our signage etc. I know what I'm planning to do to the Riviera might be considered sacrilege to some purists in "modernizing" my interior a bit.......just trying to make it more family friendly

Welcome Ash
Modernising an Olympic is always a good idea... Even the builder was constantly upgrading his ideas and styles with the Olympics so why shouldn't we?
If Olympics were still in production they would be a totally different interior to the originals
There are always new and interesting ideas coming up on the forum ... quite amazing what people are doing with their vans
All the best Atog

Hi Ash ;D My son Luke has just started work over with you guys at Out of Town 4WD . Re: Modernising the Olympic..... Bottom line is .. Its your money you used to buy your van. You are entitled to do what you want with your van. No use having something and not being happy with it while away camping/vanning/holidaying. Customising/modernising is a way of putting your own individual touch on a van. Keep us informed on the progress and post plenty of photos. Most of all .......enjoy the hobby. Reddo jnr

Well it is now official........after getting off the phone 5Min's ago to Peter (Humpty2) we have now definitely established that my van was definitely his old van! I am happy that Peter now knows that his Olympic has been saved from rotting or being treated as just "another old caravan" and the work that he put into it all those years ago has been preserved. And knowing how Peter looks after his "toys" feel very privileged to now have in my possession,Please stay tuned for some photo's shortly
