Hi Dudes. While discussing this years saturday night entertainment options with my planning associate Sutcac. I mentioned that it would be a bit of fun bunging on a constructor billy cart derby down the Hill near where Kingy ,the Sutcacs and a stack of others where set up last year. Idea being that all the ingeniuos van restorers we have on the forum that are going to Coledale could knock up a basic billy cart and bring it with em . The constructor idea is based around what i have seen the scouts do. You have the cart sitting on the ground with all wheels off. steering ( ropes) disconnected. When the flag drops the driver has to fit all 4 wheels . secure them with split pins ( nails) . attach steering ropes ... or wheel. and then launch em selves down the hill.. They are not actually nailing and sawing on the start line. Just reassembling . Also thought about "scale model vintage van races" Build a model van no more than 450 high with a jockey /third wheel at the front. Sorta like that little van that Maurie picked up for Kaybee last year.... maybe a bit smaller. Idea is same as "Rocker box racing" . All vans lined up on a sloping ramp with starting board. board drops and vans trundle off down a smooth surface to the finish line. Scrutineering would ensure no house bricks are hidden inside of the vans. No handicap for miniture fibreglass vans.. they are already handicapped ......... OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO .... i promised i wasnt gunna be naughty.... ;D. I claim imunity as i am not slandering REAL... fobbergross caravans... just little pretend ones .... Clyde will probably pack the plywood EHs again. The "EH Racers" where a big hit with kids of all ages last year. There will be an ongoing interstate fishing challenge ran over the week of the tour heading to Coledale. The QLD maroons - Clydes team V The NSW Blues - Reddos team . Culminating in the final rounds being held on Coledale beach with a weigh in saturday arvo sometime. Of course other states are welcome to field a team . Do they have fish in Victoria All fish must be legal length and edible... must be deloused of ice , newspaper and sinkers before bringing to the scales...People have been known ( and encouraged) to cheat. So guys if ya keen just let us know. Or if ya have anything else ya wanna bung on then feel free to have a say here. Its vintage caravan get together related so we should be Onkey Doorey to discuss it here. If it aint well i am sure a moderator will copy and paste it off down to "Whatever'. wont be the first time .. probably wont be the last.. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Just tryin ta motivate people to join in and have a bit of fun amongst the ranks. Reddo

"Do they have fish in Victoria" Wea re not so poor down here in Mexico that we cant afford fish Mr Reddo. Hmmmph! Yes there are some good fishing holes up north, but we catch the od goldfish in the pond down here. Great idea with the daytime shinnanigans events. Will there be bonus points for any Billy carts towing mini VVs? Cheers, Gristy

Spoke with Maurie and his young bloke robbie at All Holden day. Apparently these pair are dark horses in the Billy Cart race. Robbie has a "How to build a billy cart book"... Blow the whistle ref........ unfair advantage . Meanwhile ... try finding old solid rubber , wire spoked pram wheels for billy carts nowadays. I found 4 goodins on a pram at the swap meet.... Pram was $100. Looks like i am gunn a have ta wait until gabage collection night and steal a few wheelie bin wheels. Reddo

Looks like the competition is getting fair dinkum ;D I bought an old railway platform trolley at Cessnock swap. It had solid steel wheels with roller bearings . Frame was made from 2" angle iron. It had a t bar handle at the front that steered the single front wheel. It would have been the F! of billycarts down the hill at Coledale..... .. Problem was it weighed about 40KG I would have needed a pit crew to help me push it up the hill after winning each of my heats. Either that or an ejector seat so i could bail out before it dissapeared into the surf. Plan b is underway. a bit more conventional and along similar lines as what Maurie is proposing. I have 2 pram wheels... and thats it so far. But be warned i will have something on the starting line. Does the 1.5 ton Chev ute qualify as a billycart. Other saturday activitys... dont forget what sugarshack proposed earlier on.. A mini Vintage van spare parts swap meet. Bring ya spare old van bits and run a swap meet stall for a few hours. Costs ya a donation to the Apex tin to spread ya junk out on the ground and sell ya gear. We can bung this on early in the day so it doesnt interfere with people coming to watch me kick all comers butts in the Billycart derby ;D Reddo

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Yo Dudes..and Coledaliens I am spending this weekend sorting through the gear to pack for the Tour and coledale. The tour kicks off next saturday morning...... cant wait, cant wait, cant wait.... are we there yet ? I know i have promised a few people some Vint Van bits an pieces and will stashing those bits in the van for collection at coledale. The list so far is..... Wildmanaus... water pump repair kit JBJ..................2 round 12 volt light fittings RFW...............4 stud .brake drums, bearings and hubs for old trailer If i have missed any pledges to people can ya send me a pm and i will pack the bits. Also would like to remind all those going dont forget what Sugarshack proposed earlier on.. A mini Vintage van spare parts swap meet. Bring ya spare old van bits and run a swap meet stall for a few hours. Costs ya a donation to the Apex tin to spread ya junk out on the ground and sell ya gear. We can bung this on early in the day so it doesnt interfere with the Billycart derby . Meanwhile highly tecknuckl research and deveflopment is ongoing on the "Reddotel Rat Racer".... Specially commisssioned pinafarina carbon fibre body arriving from Italy shortly ( ice cream tub lid with number painted on it), Hard compound 2.25" X12" ( bindi proof) Kenda racing rubber coming from america., Duralium space frame ( council sign frames) , top of the line recaro racing seat ( freedom patio chair) , Billet racing rims (12" K mart brand pushbike rims with minimum spokes clackers and milk bottle tops attached)... ..... I see that queensland entrant having a few problems with pot plants gettin in his way.. ...... hmmm might have ta pack a few terracotta pots to pelt at him on the way down the mountain.... Not too concerned about the sugarshack entry... knowing Wayne it will have a retractable roof on it and he will be 3 minutes late gettin off the starting grid while the roof dissapears down the back of his pants ... Nup... i reckon the real challenge will come from the Robbie Cole Speed Racer camp. Dark Horse that Anthill mob. Reddo

I knew she was around the back of the shed somewhere, after being the “Leppington Champion Down Hill Racer” 30 years ago (and coincidently, because she is so light, the “Up Hill” and “On the Flat” champion too) and there she was ........... neglected.... un-wanted... disintegrating amongst all the other “good stuff” I keep in storage behind the shed. The old Victa lawn mower wheels had not stood the test of time. But it was just a matter of finding some NOS wheels amongst the stuff I knew would come in handy one day.... pack some Castrol HTB grease into them and...... she's as good as new. “The Wedge” While scrounging around the back o' the shed I discovered another forgotten treasure that I thought had been donated to the “Power House Museum”.... but upon reflection I recall there was some dispute over the amount of time they wanted to have it on display, they wanted it on “permanent display” whereas I thought it should only be brought out on “special occasions”, we could not reach a compromise so here she is, to strut her stuff at Coledale. Up on the hoist to have some work done on the running gear. The stable of racing machines I have available for hire @ the “Coledale Classic & Vintage Billy Cart Down Hill Gymkhana” ..... although I must warn everybody that negotiations with a certain HIGH PROFILE CONTENDER for the event are underway.
