Shannons sponsor a Holden car show each year on the lawns of old parliament house in Canberra. For 2009 they wish to invite vintage vanners to attend , with their vans and ANY model/make of matching period tow car. This is a big show in a great location , if you don't wish to stay at the local van park, there is heaps of room at my place . Park beside my dam, we can knock off a few reds, roll out the barby and try your luck catching a few perch or murray cod (7 to 10lb average size) Will post dates etc as I find out Jeff

Just a reminder that this is coming up in March, I think the first weekend AFTER Berry. I will confirm that date by tomorrow nite. May be a good followup to berry if anyone is holidaying as they go- I know the organisers are superkeen for any VVs'/period towcars to attend , I will also put up contact details tomorrow as well. The white Ibis Van park just outside Canberra (5 mins) is where the Hotrodders stay each year with all levels of accomodation, lots for the kids to play on(putt putt, jumping castle , paddle boats etc) and a good pub 1/2 mile down the road. OR MY PLACE- 5 mins further down the road big paddock, large dam/jetty with LARGE cod and perch - fun to catch and release, they,ll take flies, poppers, lures and the big ones consider mice a delicacy!! I will follow up on this tomorrow night but if we have a bit of a turnout it may be a good opportunity to bash the ear of the shannons rep re insurance........ .regards

Hi all, I now have all the details. It is called the Shannons Wheels Expo 2009 and it is held on the 22nd of MARCH , the week AFTER Berry. It is for ALL VINTAGE,VETERAN, CLASSIC CARS AND RODS etc AND VINTAGE AND CLASSIC CARAVANS ARE KEENLY invited as well. They already have a designated spot for VVs' to be parked together! It is held on the lawns out the front of the OLD parliament house but don't get confused and park with the modern vans (and tents) parked there, that's the aboriginal embassy!!! You may be welcomed with a smoking ceremony but its what they are smoking I'd be worried about!!! Last year they had a vintage indy car, open wheelers and motorcycles as well- similar this year too I expect. Cars and VVs' can roll up from 7am. No entry fee but welcome to lob a gold coin towards whatever charity they are sponsoring. Contact John at - daraglen@tpg.com.au for any further details or give me a pm if you can't get hold of him regards Jennison

I would like to add my support to Jennisons invitation to attend the 'Shannons Wheels Display Day' on Sunday 22 March 2009. this event has matured into the best supported local Canberra event for motoring enthusiusts. The location is excellent on the (watered) lawns and gardens of old Parliament House with plenty of shade available. The event is organised by the Council of ACT Motor Clubs. Email wheels@actmotorclubs.org.au Hey Jennison, don't invite Reddo to go fishing in your dam as I am reminded of the possibilities through the words of Henry Lawson in his short story 'The loaded Dog' . jendi.bowmeow.com.au/loadeddog1.htmlSaturday Arvo at Jennisons place sounds like a great idea. G'day all, A great day today, I'm told more than 800 cars,Trucksetc..... Unfortunately only 4 VV's and a vintage motorhome to represent us. Koala and his mate brought along their beautiful old Chevs and their fantastic matching Teardrops. HarveyEH had his rare factory 3 door, double bench seat EH panel van with 9'(I think) bondy and my EH sedan and pathfinder. An old chev( I didn't check) with house on board as well. I also got to meet Foxy and Mrs Foxy and checked out his photos of his franklin freeway under restoration. VVers were given front row prominence almost right opposite the GTHO falcons and the HSV mob(no offence intended!!) on King Edward Terrace so plenty of traffic and interest. Dozens of people took down the VV & OTP website details with many already owning one or more VVs'. I have the details somewhere, on a caravan repairer - part time who may be of use to any locals. Back to the VV's There was a nice fellow, Elwin whom I'm sure will soon be a member who has some beauties! A 1930's Don, an early propert , a gypsy-10(?),a carapark-10, an Atlantic and another I forget. *** To be continued - dinners on!!!! regards Continued.. Many who took the details, had or knew of, an old VV in a shed somewhere so heres hoping some turn up for sale!! I would ask the VV fraternity to consider bringing their VV along nex year. Whilst attended by many organised clubs this event welcomes and makes space for non aligned enthusiasts and their rigs as well and as I said there are no entrants or entrance fees. From the response Koala and I received , perhaps next year given it is such al arge well attended, yet "informally run event a bit of flag waving may well result in quite a few new VVs in the area becoming available ,which can only help us. regards to all Jennison....

I must confess cobber, I had no pen or paper so Elwyn is all I know , (but he did take my details)however of all the interested parties I will be surprised if he does'nt register. He was real keen to hear about the site and i did explain the importance to many of us VV nuts on him just registering the chassis nos and their locations. I got the impression the don was in OK/good nick as well! so mark t watch out for a new registration from ACT. catch you later, off to work regards......

G'day Jennison, A 1930's Don, eh? I wonder if it could be the elusive Don belonging to the Walshs (serial no 30)? Did Elwyn give any more info that could help us locate him? Does he have an interest in a particular make of car for interest? Don Ricardo

I,m sorry Richard. I did talk to him for quite a while and he took the site details and my contact details but I must confess I was so busy with people queing up to get in the VV to have a look/talk that I didn,t have time to go find a pen and paper. He was quite adamant though that it was 1930s, model Don with stained glass window. regards jeff

Some photos from the Shannons Show at Old Parliament House posted on behalf of Jennison. Jennison's '53 Jennison caravan and EH: Harvey's van and 4-door EH van: Great to see Harvey's van looking pretty smick. The last time we saw it on the forum I seem to remember, was when it was still in the process of being restored. Click here What's the history behind the EH Harvey or Jennison? A vintage motor home: Note the aircon for both the caravan and the truck cabin. Can't see the aircon for the truck cabin? Try closing the doors... ;D ;D ;D Don Ricardo
