Will & Lyn, (or should we now call them Lucy & Desi) ;D ;D ;D Wow, congrats & I hope you realise you have achieved what is probably everyones dream - to own a beautiful, big shiny airstream. Good on you both Can't wait to see the pics. It sure does explain your decision to part with the Kennedy & the teardrop, we have all been wondering what could have possibly replaced them . Geoff wants so bad to buy the Kennedy, but as usual space is our problem. Again congrats & enjoy your wonderful trip to the US, will admit to being just a tad envious. Jude & Geoff better make that 10 tads jealous. ps. we can imagine the number of friendships you 2 are going to develop on the trip across the states. geoff & jude

Hi Will and Lyn, Like everybody else, when you announced you were selling the Kennedy and the TD, I wondered what you were up to. At first I was afraid you might have grown up and left the rest of us kids behind...a bit like Wendy eventually grew up and left Peter Pan forever a boy. But I am glad to see that's not the reason! The Airstream is a great project, and the road trip will be the holiday of a lifetime! Once you get back to Australia, the Airstream will turn heads where ever you go. And if you use the polishing compound you mentioned, you will solve the problem of the generators at Coledale. Everybody can just use the Airstream as a reflector for solar energy. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Seriously, congratulations. Can't wait to see pics of the roadtrip. Hope you both get back to full health and mobility ASAP. Regards, Don Ricardo

Dear Will and Lyn, Congratulations on purchasing the airstream - how fantastic is that. I bet you will have so much fun driving across the states with it. Not trying to put a negative spin on your great purchase, but thought I would mention a couple of things that we have come across in the past that might be worth taking note of (if you haven't already). Alan spent 4 months in the states a few years ago . He purchased a van (van not caravan) and drove it around for 4 months. He had a really hard time trying to get vehicle insurance. Most companies over there have put a ban on giving vehicle insurance to non residents of the USA. The only way he could get around it was to get a friend (US resident) to take out the insurance on Alan's behalf. So you might want to start making enquiries now as to whether you can get the airstream insured whilst driving across the country. Also you mentoned that you are planning on bringing the airstram back on a roro deckspace basis. I know that there is quiet a bit of difference price wise for roro deckspace and roro in the hold, so that may be a factor. I used to be in shipping and there was soooooooooooooooooooo many instances of containers and items being lost overbaord in rough whether or coming loose and hitting other items up on the deck. When we bought 3 cars over from the US in 2000 we had them in the hold - there is no way that I would have them put on deck. If you are still going to bring the airstream back on the deck, please make sure you get it fully insured, it would be terrible if anything happened to it. Alan has always wanted an airstream, so I know he will be terribly jealous when I tell him. Congrats again. Di & Al

I have rang all the van parks on the 2008 east coast tour and booked 3 sites in your name......so there.... no excuses...you, Lynn the effy and the big polsished airstream are gunna be there ;D ;D ;D ; This would have to be the ultimate trip and purchase. And how good is it that ya get ta tell the yanks how great australia and the vintage van scene is over here. I am sure you and lynn will do us proud. You guys will be taking vintage vanning to a new level in OZ. Hope all goes well and the silver bullet stays on deck for its ride home. Me??? well i guess i will just keep cuddling bondys..... ho-hum I jealous red dog

Great to see another blue oval headin to your place Will! Just needs to be chrome dipped to match the Airstream ;D Beautiful looking property Colin and Laurie have, I just love old stuff - houses, sheds (okay, barns too!), cars, furniture, and um, er, something else, ........oh yeh old vans too ;D Hope it all goes well, can't wait to hear that the Airstream is in Aus! Are you able to ship into perth direct? A good friend of mine ships gear in from the US via container regularly, keep telling him we need to stick a couple of cars in one.......pity a van wouldn't fit! cheers, gristy

Hi Will and Lyn ,Congradulations on your airstream,I wouldnt mind one myself but I hear the shipping is expensive . I ve got my long service leave in 3 months time and will be off on a buying spree myself to the states. I currently know of a 28ft airstream that on is on a ship now and will be landing soon in Brisbane .Its the first one this bloke has imported and is planning on more. My only question is because the door is on the other side do you have to patch up the door and or change it to the other side to meet our rego requirements as the bloke importing them didnt know himself. Cheers Dave

Hi Trish leather and lace what great name Lyn and I only do our entertainment for the Vin Van group we get by with a push we are lucky we havent been kicked out its all in the name of fun but no one has complained yet so they must like it you are welcome to make it happen as well regards will and Lyn HeyGristy yep it must give them great satisfaction restoring those beautiful 1800s buildings we have been extremely fortunate meeting some really genuine nice people that have similiar values I must say nothing has been to much trouble for both Laurie and Colin thanks mate ! good observations old is good just ask me !!!!! Chippy Dave pre 1988 Trailers or as we know them Caravans are exempt with the right hand doors however on motorhomes it is a different matter I believe they have to be converted if they are over 4.5 tonnes They are an awseome looking rig they have always fascinated me since I saw Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball taking there Honeymoon in one in the 1954 movie (Movie) The long run I remember Lucy collected rocks in the desert and the van was filled up with rocks and the car couldnt pull it the woman was a crazy comedienne that still makes me laugh thinking about her antics the promotion of the movie the van was a square rig but in the movie it was an airstream Regards to all thanks for the interest and the posts

Hey Chippy if your in the states it does help finding one with a seriously good skin is hard to find if it is later than eighty eight you cant bring it in generally they have reasonable skins I wanted a genuine 60s Airstream with a good skin and I have been looking for about two years I could have paid through the nose with a dealer and you still dont know what you are getting untill it is delivered pre 64 you have the problem of the old glues mixing with the formaldahyde vermin urine and creating a toxic gas it is not wise to buy pre 64 unless the internal has been stripped and re insulated the Insulation upgraded insulation came in in 63 that solved the gas problem try and buy one that has been coated Zolatone internally which a tough resurfacing coating that protects from scratches and heavy wear also stops tearing dont buy plain vinyl my teardrop has been coated with an australian equivalent to Zolatone The early smaller vans like the Bambi are extremely popular in England and europe and with the rising fuel costs the americans are seeking them out as well however a good early bambi will sell for around 25 to 28.000 thousand euros and dealers scour the country to find them in pristine condition any thing that stays on the net over three days in that range forget about it unless you are there and have the cash in hand if you require a hand I have some good contacts and some excellent little heard of small town web sites onviously the smaller the van the les you pay to get it here but dont make the mistake of buying a marked skin internals can be rectified dented external skins are a different matter Regards ;D Will
