Hi everyone,
Just looking for some help in straightening a steel rim.
When i got skanky van, it had been stuck in one spot for 30 yrs. I took the wheels to the local tyre dealer to get some cheapy old truck tyres and tubes fitted so i could get her off her bum and move her around.
He told me that one of the rims was slightly bent off its centre. Any ideas on how i can get this sorted?
Cheers Chris

Hi Chris,
try Neway wheels in Heidelberg. They can either straighten it or fit new rim. They also custom make anything you want.
I had a set of 15 inch x 4 inch Vauxhall wheels cut down to 14 inch and fitted with 6 inch safety rims. Very impressed with both price and workmanship.
cheers, Leigh.

Ok, time for a saga update...
I went as recommended to Ajax wheels today to get my bent rim sorted.
He took one look at it and said, "Which tyre shop did that?" "Scuse me" i say? Turns out that once explained, the machine they use for breaking the tyre bead off the rim had at some stage been misused and the bottom leaver had caught on the rim and basically yanked it out of shape. No guarantee that it could be returned to original AND concentric and so, with a little bit of rim rust, has been deemed not repairable.
The good news is that it took him about 5 seconds to tell me it is early F100, 1948-1950 to be precise, so i guess the age of my van is starting to firm up as around that era.
I know an effy wrecker that should be able to help me out with 16x5's so will trial fit those and see what happens.
A warning to all to be careful and watch the tyre fitters when you hand over any old and/or rare rims.....
Cheers Chris
