In answer to a plea for vans from Gold Coast City Council last month, seven owners turned up with their vans to participate and get some media exposure and fame? Well, notoriety! Caravans from 1950 to 1968 came from as far as Nimbin NSW and Harvey Bay Qld. for four days at Burleigh Heads Tourist Park to help launch the Heritage Expo which starts on May 10th.
It was a great time to get to know the area and the other owners and swap stories and a few lies!? We could also check out the collection of period equipment on display in the various vans. The Council shouted the park fees and a wonderful lunch at the local bowling club and for a few fleeting moments we were able to see ourselves and our vans on TV in the evening news. They also promised to send each owner a copy of all that took place throughout the media coverage.
Her are some of the photos I took but I'm sure there will be others appearing later.
Gold Coast City Council organiser Shaun Hammond holds up a reflector while the intro is recorded for TV.
Graham & Margie Duff not only had their van and matching Holden but also the period clothes from the 50's.
Hundreds of people took advantage and inspected each and every van.
Back at the Caravan Park all was quiet until the TV program 'EXTRA' wanted to film and interview everyone.
Camera man is inside the smallest caravan and found it very cramped!
First trial run for the new annex, one or two changes to be made before it's perfected.
Yoko & I pose for the media with our Hunter (very) Minor. Any more people in the photo and you wouldn't see the van! Seven vans turned up for the Heritage launch.
Cheers,
