Hey Steve (Urkel), HotRodRoger and Ray, what do you reckon for towing Bess???
These three boys started me looking at tow cars at the Mount, now I can't stop looking..... It would need to be able to tow over a tonne, would it?

hi mel
i reckon a 302 would have no trouble pulling bess.
if we hadn't spent so much on the ute i'd be thinking seriously of bidding on that one.
pretty rare thing the zephyr wagon, especially with a V8 fitted to it.

Hi Gristy,
I hope to post some pictures of my 1953 Mark 1 Zephyr 6 sedan and according to the rego papers for my van - 1953 Roma bondwood as soon as possible.
We have been touring around with the combo for quite awhile. We were pictured in the Riverine Herald (Echuca) April 2004 and Geelong Advertiser January 2005.
I wish I had discovered this vv site earlier than a few weeks ago.
The Melb. Zephyr Club are hosting a National Convention in Geelong over Easter 2009. - Go Zephyrs.
Have you lived in Gippsland long? I was born in Traralgon and I am familiar with Gleenlee Caravans.
Cheers, GG.

Hi Guys I would imagine that the Zephyr V8 might need a bit of "stiffening in the hindquarters to tow a van... but yep.. sure would do it easy towing an old bondy or those other vans made out of "synthetics" If anyone is interested in a zodiac sedan for a towcar Cobber and i Checked this one out at Muswellbrook on the 2006 spring tour. It was fully restored and an immaculate interior. I think the punter was chasing about $8000. . If ya into Dodges this was also for sale around $15,000 "400 and a bit" cubic inch motor sounded beefy and ran well. I havent got the blokes contact details . Cobber may have. He had a nice 14ft alloy van for sale at the time. That was the reason me and cobber ended up out at his shed in an industrial subdivision. Van was registered as a "Qualcraft" we pointed out the owner that this was the name on the tag/sticker attached to the aluminium windows. I am heading up that way to look at another old van in a few weeks time. I can call around and get the number off the gate if anyone is seriously keen. ;D Reddo

Ideal match if you had one of the plastic vans that was modified here in Victoria with added fins and Zephyr tail lamps.

Hi Groovygramps, Been in Gippsland most of my life. I know Glenlee caravans really well, I has a "Glenlee" caravan for a short time before the Franklin, I think it was actually built by Roma, as Glenlee bought a number of vans from roma and "rebranded" them. I kept the original "supplied by Glenlee Caravans, Traralgon Vic" plaque that was on the van.
I will be keen to see the pics of your Zephyr.
Cheers, Gristy

Hi Gristy,
Jim & Eileen Gibson and sons John and ----- were the owners of "Glenlee" caravans. We purchased a van from them in the mid to late 60's, we have no idea where that van is now.
Our Mark 1 Zephyr tows the bondy very well. GG.

Hi GG, My grandmother was very good friends with Jim and Eileen, they still live in Traralgon, and as far as I know still trundle off on caravanning adventures from time to time - not in a Glenlee caravan, unfortunately. The original site of Glenlee is still a caravan sales business but lost the Glenlee business name around 15 years ago. Likewise the caravan park has also had a name change in recent times - it is now Park Lane.
Cheers, Gristy

Yeah we have a stock MK1 sedan picked up locally been on blocks for 23 yrs, his dads car he drove a bit till marriage then parked and moved house 3 times until he sold to us ,did the brakes and radiator and used for 12 months ,starter and carb started to play up and been parked since,, 2 yrs now time flys when you look back. This looks like a better tow car option to the MK1 and more room than the sedan, very keen money tuff but will see how it goes ,may be the old story want that, sell those ,as the one who holds the coin keeps saying(over and over ),man cant have a little collection of cars and vans and all of sudden she has an interest in them all, funny that. Will watch with interest.
