Hi all. I’m new on this forum. We inherited a classic Viscount C Royal Caravan, and I’m interested to find out when it was manufactured. I learned from the forums to look for the serial number on the draw bar or look inside the cupboards. On the draw bar it’s a little hard to see whether it says B53637 or R53637. Inside the cupboards the serial number shows without the letter altogether. I have attached some pics and hope that someone can guide me in the right direction. Kind regards, Pieter Boon.

Hi Pieterboon,
The serial number is ‘R53637’. Viscount didn’t use ‘B’ as a serial number prefix at that point.
The ‘R’ indicates that your van is a Viscount Royal. The ‘5’ tells us the van was built in 1975, and the ‘3637’ tells us it was the 3,637th van built by Viscount that year.
Hope that helps.
Don Ricardo

Congratulations, wow it must be nice to inherit such an item.
Before you climb on the roof again, may I suggest you place a sturdy plank across from side to side to support your weight.
Viscounts were all about saving weight, the roof structures are very light. Cheers
