Hi mark Broke into his shed .....oooooowwwwwaaaa......while he was away !!!...oooowwwwaaaa .... I am gunna send snail a personal message and dob the pair of you in ;D...... But i suppose if ya gunna get a scoop story then ya haveta take a few risks. These old Vals where virtually indestructable when they came out. Even the old "R" then the "S" models with the 225 cube slant 6 cylinder would leave the fords and holdens for dead. Coupled to a strong gear box ( the push button autos - torque flight - where a novelty) and a solid diff they where years ahead of the blue oval and the lion. Many a weekend of my mispent youth was taken up replacing diffs ,axles or gearboxes on my HR panel van after destroying them at friday night burn out comps against the mates dodge ( Val ) wayfarer ute. I think the V8 was around about a 273 and later came a 318 ... 360 hemi. I seem to remember the drag racers using chrysler "elephant" aluminium motors ,somewhere up over the 500 c.i. capacity. More than enough to tow a box of splinters down the road. There is no substitute for cubic inches mate. I love the colour. Aqua blues always looks clean on a car. My EK Van was a similar colour and also had dragway eliminator rims same as those on the Val.. Where is Fab now ...... he would love this one. didn't he have an AP5 wagon? Any chance of sneeking back in the shed and hanging some wogboy fuzzy dices on the mirror , a nodding dog with brake light red eyes up in the parcel tray, A few spring loaded "bye bye hands" stuck in the side windows, maybe a few empty pizza boxes strewn on the floor and a Mother Tereza statue bolted on the the roof , The icing on the cake would be a pair of those little naked fat greek guy statues mounted on the bonnet facing the windscreen. every time snail hits the windscreen squirters they would pee dishwashing liquid up the windscreen....As Con the fruito would say .... "Coupla days ...... beeeewwwwddddiiiiffffuulllll " ;D. Maybe a "You toucha my car ... I breaka your face" or "Mafia Staff Car" sticker strategically positioned across the rear view mirror would lend that suttle touch that tells him the Holden supporters had invaded his shed.. Here's another thought .They actually made a "Viscount Valiant" aluminium caravan. the perfect partner for snails car ;D Reddo - disclaimer is as follows: The author is a great believer in multiculturalism All references to ethnics liking Chryslers is purely coincidental and in no way infers that all Valiant owners have one eye brow and shave down their chest to the gold neck chain.

Rabbiting on..
I was a kid fitting air conditioners in cars when Valiants first came along. A/C in cars was almost unheard of back then and as the largest of only two places in Victoria fitting A/C, we got some interesting cars came into the place.
We had to test drive everything of course, as our workshop was just down the road from Albert Park Lake (where the GP circuit is now).
I fitted out a pre-release S Valiant for the head honcho of Queensbridge Motors and, of course, had to test drive it around the lake.
Well.. EH Holdens where all the rage with the (then) new red motor, but the push button auto Valiant just blew everything else away.
Up until then my biggest buzz was in a two door Dodge Fury, with an engine that lived up to its name.
But although the Dodge had a bigger engine the Valiant was lighter and more compact, and it would go round Albert Park Lake corners much better than any of the large yankee cars.
The Valiant created a black market in cars.. You could sell your place on the waiting list for a big quid back then.
I never did tell my boss I didn’t have a licence, as I wasn’t old enough to get it.
Without wishing to cast any racial aspersions on Mediterranean neighbours of the Mafia.. This colour has been known (affectionately) in the Melbourne motor trade as ‘Lebanese Blue”. Cruise the west and you’ll see why..
Maybe the trend started when the police sold off all the blue Studebaker Larks they had..?
If you’re old enough to remember “Homicide”, when it was in black and white.. All those light coloured cars that Alwin and the crew hooned around in where powder blue.
(My sister got murdered in an episode of Homicide! That was the end of her acting career.)
All that rabbiting on from a picture of a blue Valiant.. Isn't it odd how something triggers things off

Great to see a Val amongst the Holdens. I'm a new member and have a VK 1976 beastie. Already towed a van, not your vintage type, but the more I read into this site, its a real blast. I will keep watching and maybe post some pikies of my Val CYA
