Hi Kenny, Top one looks like a Wayfarer/ Globe with the lower front bulge, Second, possibly a Carapark Voyager, but the photo looks like it’s been stretched as the van looks about 9 ft wide, Third a early 60s Viscount. Cheers hughdeany Hi Kenny and Hughdeany, The flashes on the side of the Viscount in the third photo identify it as a mid-60’s (1965 or 1966) Viscount Duralvan, not an early 60’s van. I agree on the others. Don Ricardo

Hi Kenny, Top one is a bondwood, don’t know the name, could be home built, Second is a Litecraft, Third looks very home made. Cheers hughdeany Hi Kenny and Hughdeany, Funnily enough, despite its somewhat unusual looks, I reckon the van in the third photo may not be home made: And I’ve got reasons… Compare the photo of the van above with the rear of a van that Roehm3108 saw advertised on Gumtree and then posted photos of back in January 2017: Roehm suggested that the van might be an example of late 40’s Chesney Featherweight, although (with all due respect to Roehm) I have never been 100% convinced. There are more photos of the van here. In April 2017, I ‘captured’ photos of the following van (can’t remember from where), which may be a different caravan of the same type or may be the same van that Roehm had seen after a pretty rough paint job: Now, I think the van in Kenny’s photo is the same as the van(s) in the other photos. The downward curve of the rear looks slightly different, but I think that’s a matter of perspective and lighting. If that’s the case, then it seems there might be at least two of the vans around… Or the other possibility is that by coincidence all the photos are of the one caravan! Don Ricardo

Hi Don and Kenny, I think you are right Don re the same van,and possibly the one beside the house, except the house one has the number plate on the right and the other has it in the middle. Cheers hughdeany

Also, I was thinking the hatch on the old photo is rather wide, the colour photo appears much narrower when taking the rear perspective (although it could still be a one off with an altered hatch and number plate facility). regards kenny

Hi Kenny and Hughdeany,
I am interested to read your comments about the caravan(s) with the hoods over the front and rear windows.
I think there’s a reasonable chance that the van shown in the photos posted by Roehm and the van in the photos I posted are one and the same. For example there seems to be the same little bend at the left hand end of the metal bar at the bottom of the door, and the registration label holder seems to be on the same slight angle. But on the other hand I think there is also a reasonable chance they are not. The photos were posted online about three months apart, and it’s possible that someone has given the van a coat of (grey) paint in between, but if so, why on earth would they leave some of the van unpainted? Also some of the grey paint looks quite weathered and is peeling off, particularly on the windows. Surely the paint job couldn’t have been that bad? In addition, if you look at the side with the door of the grey van, you’ll see some sort of a dealer’s sticker or similar just above the rego label holder that isn’t visible in Roehm’s photo. (It actually looks a bit like an Arrow Caravans sticker, but I’m not 100% on that.) The sticker could have been applied after the van was painted, but then it doesn’t look all that new. So despite what I said in my last post, I am inclined to think that they may be two different vans.
Now on the question of the van in Kenny’s photo, I think the hatch looks a little wider because of the shadow and sunlight shining on the roof. I think the hatches on the three vans are a similar size. However, I do think that the rear windows on “Kenny’s” van may be a little wider and with thinner frames than on the other two vans. That doesn’t mean that they weren’t built by the same manufacturer though. It was not uncommon for low volume manufacturers to make incremental changes to their designs so that no two of their vans were ever quite the same.
I’d still love to know who built them. I haven’t seen any Chesney’s with the front and rear hoods over the windows, which is why my gut feeling is that the vans weren’t built by Chesney. But it seems likely they were built by some Queensland manufacturer.

Hi Don and Kenny, Having another look at Kenny’s photo I think the photo may have been stretched, because most of those little bondwoods were only 6 or 6.6 wide, whereas that one looks quite a bit more.I also agree re the window frames and the overhang doesn’t seem as much but it could be a shadow. I bought a new house last year and all the photos I saw in real estate agents were stretched, when I would comment about misrepresentation they would say it was “ photographers license) ! Maybe back then they did the same thing without realising! Just a thought.😉 Cheers hughdeany

Great info from you guys, thanks so much! Interesting design over the windows, almost looks like the van has a 'frown' Here are three more to frown over! Kenny's tips: top (with Falcon) - Litecraft? middle - Millard? Bottom - Valiant?

Kenny's tips: top (with Falcon) - Litecraft? middle - Millard? Bottom - Valiant? Hi Kenny, My reading is as follows: Top - Don't think it's a Litecraft Middle - Yes, Millard Bottom - Not a Valiant. It has wrap around windows, so it's either a Viscount Duralvan or a Viscount Ambassador, the latter with the optional wrap arounds. Don Ricardo

Hi Kenny and Hughdeany, I’m not sure that the third caravan in the last batch of photos is a Chesney. At around the time that van was probably built, Chesney was producing caravans with either no external wheel arch or a wheel arch in the shape of a shallow parallelogram with quite sharply pointed bottom corners. The van in the photo has a more regular rectangular wheel arch with rounded corners at the top. I also note that the van seems to have quite small side windows relative to the size of the van. Chesney windows also tended to be smaller than other brands, but not quite that small. Just a comment. Don Ricardo

Sorry Kenny, in this instance I don’t have any suggestions out what this van is, just what I don’t think it is. 😬

Do you think the third photo above (the mystery photo) could be a Murrumba Star? To the amateur its has some characteristics of this guy:
