Hi Reddo Have a look on ebay, item 4573179012 under classic cars. Would you happen to know anything about this vehicle? What would you think a fair price would be for one of these. Owner has told me there is no rust. Thanks Ray

G'day Ray I can tell you a bit about that FC from the photos and numbers given The car is a 1958 late September build and the paintwork and engine number is correct for that month. I am not sure of the chassis number as it appears to be an FE one However the car has some goodies incuding a heater , number plate surrounds, seat belts and after market radio The passengers front door appears to have been repainted The car looks to be in very good condition , even the platic surround over the guages looks to be in very good cond . These usually blister and crack up with sun exposure You would need someone to check out the car for rust in these areas Subframe below the radiator overflow under the passengers floor subframe as the radio arial tends to let water in under the floormat and rust out the floor and subframe from the top down under the front mudguards where they bolt on In the boot under the mat and in the spare tyre bay They are prone to rust on the firewall where the mudguard joins, however you wont see any of this until it starts leaking or you take a mudguard off Best bet is to have someone check it out for you in at least these areasas the photops always look much better than they really are......having said that the going price for one is between $4,500 and $6000 and this seller has a reserve on the car There is a grey standard FC sedan with red trim on the FE/FC Site for sale for $4,500 and has a few descriptions of its condition and may also be worth a look.......click on this link and you can ask anything you want about the car or just compare the cars www.fefcholden.org.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=c4sale;action=display;num=1109455019Hope this helps Gary

Hi Gary- Reddo here Thanks for that i could not have explained the pros and cons of shopping for fc/fe's as well as you have.
Ray Pleased to see your shopping for a Holden and not a sh#tbox F%rd. Just be very wary of buying ANYTHING off eBay. If what your chasing is within a few days drive of home. Get the dosh outta the bank and drive there and have a look. You have already shown us that a trip across 3 states is not a problem. I know eBay can be difficult due to owners not wanting to haggle off auction. Keep your eye on the Holden site that Gary has given the link to. Also have a scratch around on the Trading Post search "All States".
Finally ... remember if ya coming past Newcastle and you need a co pilot or someone to drive a car back home for ya . Then give me a call.
Reddo
Happy Hunting

Thanks feute & Reddo for your input - it's great! I guess I have to be careful here that I don't turn this area into something it wasn't intended to do, ie a car sales thread. The problem is that I am virtually mechanically illiterate, especially when it comes to things like what to look for on these older cars. For that reason I don't want a car that is going to need heaps of work/money thrown at it. An FE/FC model are only my second choice (sorry). I really do like the EH or HR's. I notice one on the fe website. Perhaps if anyone knows it, they could write to me off-site direct. Also, would appreciate hearing if anyone sights a good one at a reasonable price. Thanks Ray PS Reddo, I am also checking Papers/trading post etc. Thanks also for the co-driver offer.

Hi JB I know what you are saying, and that is a major reason I am approaching the idea rather tentatively. I would NEVER get rid of my J C!!!! The purchase would be as a second car. But then I think of the onroad costs etc. Must check if the have such a thing as classic car registrations up here. Amazing how much work one can get done without the boss around, isn't it? Managed to finally finish painting the back of the house whilst mine was up north! Cheers Ray
