Hi
Great little car. Our family had a morris major series 1 ( i think they came out before the elites with the fins on the back. sorry if i am wrong here)) back in the 60's. Black, twin carbs and a lumpy cam. full set of smiths gauges in the padded dash, tacho, lowered with 6" rims /michelin radials.full harness drivers seat belt. looked , sounded and went great... 1500 motor i think.
Just dont park it where Kaybee can get a go at the steering. I think he is chasing the rack and pinion out of one of these.
There is a nice little teardrop on ebay at the moment that would look cool behind this car. it is advertised as being in Sydney when it is actually in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne. current bidding is around $900.
Regards Reddo

Dont let Jailbar near it!! The last one of these he got his hands on ended up with a supercharged and fuel injected Ford V8 in it!! Cheers, Santa

Hello Lisianswife! Thats a strange looking VW Type 3 hahaha I guess it was difficult finding a good one though. Very nice looking Austin you have. I really hope there is no future plans to drop in a 351 and a flame paint job Mein God! Atleast Bigdidda cannot claim he will be the only one with an Austin at Coledale now ;D All the best Greg

Thanks guys for the comments. Jailbar - that sounds like a hell of a thing you had. Any photos? VeeDubNut - Yeah it is a strange looking type 3 isnt it. It was raining on the way home from buying it and it morphed into an Austin Cheers, Ian.

[glow=red,2,300]jailbarjuice [/glow]- That is one awesome looking Austin Lancer. You must have spent a lot of time on it, shame you didnt finish it. It looked good as a 2 door, bet it got some looks from people wondering what the hell it was. We have already noticed people looking at ours confused wondering what it is The biggest trouble we are having with it is finding some wider steel wheels without having to get our centres welded in wider rims as that is gunna cost $500 for a set of steel wheels and for that price we could buy a set of mags. We have found out that later model steel rims wont fit because of the size of the hub so we dunno what to do. [glow=red,2,300]Bigdidda[/glow] - World of quality motoring? Well is suppose you could call it that ;D It is a great little car to drive and goes along quite nicely, but it will be even better when I make up some extractors and get a new exhaust and fit a set of twin 1"1/2 SU's. You mentioned about a workshop manual we have one of them, you wouldnt have a parts book would ya? Cheers, Ian.

Ian, I am thinking that if you contact the State Office of CAMS(Confederation of Australian Motorsport) and see if there is a local Austin/Morris Car club in your area. That would probably be one way of tracking down a set of wide rims. Just a thought. The other thought would be to contact the people at Mullins Wheels, they do have a great range of wide steel wheels available.
Cheers Paul

We dont want to go to wide with the wheels, 5 or 6 inch we were hoping. Anything is better than 3 inches. We have found out that Performance wheels do a minilite style mag and make them in 3 different offsets so they will fit under the car. We are just not sure if we want to go that way or keep original style steel wheels. The minilites are going to cost us $1200 and adding up everything for the cost of having steel wheels welded that will be around the $1000 mark. So i cant justify spending soo much on steel wheels when we could have mags. I dunno what to do, whatever it is I want the wheels at the back to sit in the guard as we would like to lower the car a little, but there is not much room to play with. Cheers, Lisa.

Hi Col, Going to call a couple of places today. If I can't do any good will just find some rims and make them up myself. Thanks Ian ;D

Hi Ian. Australia Post charged me $15 a rim to send 4 GTS monaro rims ( sold on eBay) to a bloke in Sth Melboune. Each rim weighed approx 10KG. I called at a tyre service and scored 4 empty rim boxes. Get the neatest fitting box for your rims.... size does matter when mailing anything . The bigger the parcel, the more you pay. So it will cost you roughly $60 each way to send/retrieve your rims. Hope this helps Reddo

Thanks guys still dunno what to do. I rang a morris minor place today as morris minors have the same rims and they wanted $165 each for a widened steel rim. I think doing it myself so far is going to be the best option. Col - if you could find out a price that would be good, dont go to to much trouble though. Anyways on another note the missus was home from work sick today so did this drawing of our Lancer and Caravan.

Hi Col, Thanks very much for the quick reply. That price seems more reasonable. Thanks Ian ;D
