Hi All,
First off, love the site. I discovered this great site only a few months ago and have keenly read many posts regularly over that time. The site really has impressed me.The way that it runs itself and members participate is truly unique, a credit to all involved.
So after reading about Coledale & Reddo's ECST, green with envy i might add, i just had to put my hand up and take the plunge to join as a VV member and hopefully take part in future events to be held.
Now I've taken he plunge, i guess my challenge is to get my hands on a VV. My tow car will be my 1969 HT Kingswood Sedan 186ci. Being a 1969 model, hopefully i can find a VV that suits the period of the car, without entering the 1970 bracket.. I have had my eye for a while now on a beautiful egg shape Franklin van in a front yard not far from where i live in Melb. It looks to be late 60's. It appears to be in great condition (not that i have been climbing the fence looking over or anything!!) and im tipping before it was placed under the tree it is currently under, it would have been garaged since knew. So a door knock on the weekend could be in order....
Some of the craftsmanship with the old bondwood vans i have seen on the site has completely blown me away. Im looking forward to seeing some of the vans in the flesh at future events and chatting with the owners to find out just how they did it! Unfortunately my skills aren't up to taking on such a project hence me looking at already pretty good examples that require minimal work, preferably aluminium as outside storage is a big possibility. Hopefully i can improve my skills when i eventually get a VV to tinker with!
Well, hopefully all goes well with the planned door knock to secure this Franklin. If not then im sure the forum will be a great resource in locating something else. My girlfriend and I look forward to attending an event with the HT and Franklin in tow some time soon and sharing a unique hobby with other like minded enthusiasts. I also look forward to participating and sharing knowledge with you all on this site and just generally helping out where i can. So if anyone needs a hand down south (or across the Nullarbor for the WA guys), im just a phone call (or posting) away.
Thanks for reading,
Cheers J-Rod.
