So...... I left the cattledog . wife and family on the verandah at 2pm Friday arvo
Temperature was on the rise 36 deg.
Off down the highway to Sydney.. the old EK purring along happily at 180 deg.... speedometer readout says 60 MPH constant... no wuckers.
Get to the end of the roadworks near Windsor and stop....... suchdda known that things would be ygly friday arvo headin outta sydney. Local radio statation says 40 deg and i believe them. Time to turn on the aircond. so with both windows wound down i slowly make it to north richmond... 42 deg.
temp gauge says 220. jump out ... not boiling. Get to Kurrajong... Big flashing sign says "Bells line road closed at causeway" .
Reddo says " be stuffed is it" and keeps on truckin. Passed heaps of fireys waving at me and kept going. by the time i got to " The causeway" all the drama was over and the road was open to traffric.
Down into Lithgow temp drops to 25 deg ... bloody bewdy mate. Old grey is purring again at 180. On to Bathurst and it s starts raining. double bloody bewdy mate. Swing into the Bathurst Motor Inn and head for thje bowlo next door. 4 or 5 schooners and across the road for a pizza. Life is good on the road.
Saturday morning 5.30am .. up .. boil the billy , watch a bit of telly, shower, poo and knock down a coffee. Pack the ute and head for Orange.... Yep.. Orange... Strange name for a town but there is plenty of other food towns in NSW.... Berry, Hay, Scone. Nothing wrong with Oranges eh.
Roll inta Orange at 8.00am.and find my destination.
The old darlin and her hubby have been waiting on me and have been down the yard evicting the squirrela out of the van.
I took a couple of Superman proton anti crypinite tablets and followed them into the back yard.
Its about now i start feelin weak. I repeat the Royal plywood association Oath over and over so i can keep up my strentgh while dealing with " the evil glass". We found it nestled in a carport surrounded by plants
A deal is struck and like any good venomous snake handler i use a fork stick to wrestle the thing into the street. The holden rared up and galloped off down the street. took 4 of us to rope it and drag it back to the "white menace".
The owners stood next to thier old van for the last happy snap.
\
They have owned it for years and towed it with .. a Hillman Minx, EK wagon, early falcon and the last trip was 4 or 5 years ago with a EA falcon which is now broken. They will use the money i gave em to get the car runnin by Xmas.... Geez it makes ya feel good known you have helped releive them from the pain and suffering of owning a Sunliner and helping them nurse the rotten old/new ford back to health.
Here a picture in the middle of nowhere hangin with atrucky while i ring the sweat ouuta my t shirt and grab a bottle of ice water from the esky
We came home via Stuart Town, Wellington, Gulgong ( second time in 2 months went through there on the tour") Merriwa for a counter lunch... temperature was back up to 38 deg. On through Singleton , Maitland and into "Fibreglass World.". Acka "Humptys Place' for an appraisal and diagnosis of the Vomitliner. Then home about 5.00pm . Not a bad effort for a 24 hour escaped which include crossing the great divide twice in temps equalling the old 100 degree mark... towing.. no air conditioning.
GOD BLESS HOLDEN GREY MOTORS .. THEY MIGHT BE SLOW BUT THEY ARE UNSTOPPABLE
Anywho, Back to the Crapliner.
Apparently its a '62 or '63 model.
heres a coupla inside shots
Has a brand new Roden 2 burner stove with gas oven. Anney paid around 4 or 500 dollars for it a while backHeadlining is in excellent cond. 2 new tyres and rego till the end of January.Gas bottle is Ok till 2009. 50mm coupling and the whole thing tows great without levellers / sway bars. Although it did feel heavier than Matilda on big hills.
Bad news is it has a cracked back window and the hatch has been fractured where the old darlin tried to take it under woolworths underground carpark at Port Macqaurie. original top cupboards and wardrobe but sink /fridge / stove area had been modified and there is now a full sized double bed down the back.
The gel coat is shot and the whole thing looks like crocidle skin. Humps reckpons ya can sand the lot back , prime it and respray it.
Fair bit of work there doin that but it is in fairly sound condition and there isnt a lot of work to do inside to make it liveable.
I showed matilda and she is not amused.. at all
.
I showed the Cattledog .....
and he spewed up all this blue stuff
Thats it. If it is gunna effect my pets its gotta go. I aint keepin this white mess in my yard. It was never my intention to cross to the dark side and i will always love proper vans... THAT IS TIMBER/ BONDWOOD/ PLYWOOD.
If anyone is interested in it then PM me and i will tell ya what I want for it. I will give ya's a week if anyone is keen. If there is no interest it will end up on ebay.
Some people might say why did i bother
. Simple ... if it had stayed where it was it would have rotted there. Even if i dont like fibreglass vans it deseved to be " Rescued " and hopefully " restored / loved and used by somebody"...
Even Sunliners need lovin' sometimes.
Now if ya will excuse me i am off to the doctors to see about this rash that is appearing all over me. FIBRELASSOSIS
OH NO
