Hello to you all. Some of you will guess who it is...lol. A few photos of my old van (un-restored as yet) were posted ages ago. and my teardrop was at Corra Lyn and Churchill Island.
I have also recently acquired the 59 Roadhaven at the end of firefighters thread in down history lane. Hope to set it up and get some use out of it with the kids and the club.
Anyway I was wondering if anybody knows when electric brakes were first available either here or overseas. Haven't been able to locate much info on the subject. The Roadhaven has them but the coupling has been changed i suspect as it is marked metric.
Yours Gregor

Gregor, Electric brakes were first used here in 1973. We used vacuum over hydraulic until electric came on the scene. The original were converted Girlock hydraulic but they had there problems. From there electric brakes were imported from America by Hayman Reese ( Dexter brakes) . These were a special 4 stud drum and wheel with larger bearings than we were using andf capable of carrying larger weights. From there electric brkes as we know them today have evolved. To anyone who is interested I would fit electric instead of over-ride brakes any day of the week. The initial isn't a great deal more either.
