Hi Vin Vanners
This is a Rust removal option if you cant afford the other option
the fifteen hundred dollar option!!!! to have the door welded and rust removed
If I had access to door skins and a valance it would be the way to go as I dont and I have no knowledge if they make them for this type of vehicle It would be first preference
the door you will see here I did not show the Rust in the door in the photos because I wasnt intending to put this on the site
however it was a substantial amount as you will see by the inside of the door (see photo)
the total cost to sandwich the rust will end up around $20 to $30 dollars compared to the quote of fifteen hundred dollars
the result will be the same when I finish
here is the first photo the rust was the same in the front of the door
the concept is to treat the rust and convert it to a stable surface
then sandwich it externally and internally and then create a third joining piece to appear as if it is a new single piece that had been welded in upon completion
the exterior rust had been treated with rust convertor filled with no more nails then a single piece of .04 zincalume cover flashing placed over the rust and rivetted temporarily until the steel to steel bonding agent dried overnight (no more nails )
then the rivets are ground of and filled if you require a flat surface
in this case I am leaving them in because I will put a chrome strip over the line when I spray the Van
we then go to the internal side and do the same as the front convert fill and cover with .04 zinc cut to the required shape
and sandwich
I then take a single strip cut to size and join the two (Internal and internal strip as one
once the 3rd piece is clamped and glued and filled the door will appear as a new doorskin once the rivets are removed filled and sanded
I will show the finished door when the job is finished here is a photo of the other side door which the rust is minimal compared to the passenger side door
here are the tools required to save $1460.00
Some perfectionists may pooh pooh this concept however when the job is finished filled sanded and painted the result is quite amazing
iI it was my chev a definate no no but for Lord Fred I defy anyone to know what has taken place when completed
the complete process took one hour to complete from O to Go
I have some rust to sort out in the front sections under the front bumper either side of the grill
this will be done in .06 colourbond same result semi curve cut to size rust treated and zinc riveted and shaped
total cost whole car around $75.00 dollars 4 hours work (Labour)
the product is guranteed against rusting for twenty years
I did the very same job on my stepfathers FB in 1978 it is still intact an not noticable as yet only difference was it was galvanised not zinc
Regards
