Has anyone ever powdercoated their entire aluminium caravan? thoughts? Otherwise what do people think is the best painted finish on a carapark etc?

Hi OP. It might be worth your while to google what powder coating is all about. Unless you have a huge oven, it's not something you can do to a caravan. Read some of the restoration threads to see what others have done as far as painting goes, as there are a variety of ways of painting your van, it just depends on how deep your pockets are.

I work fork a company that does their own powder coating and have already spoken with them, there is no issue with painting, as I would be doing it panel-by-panel, I just wasn't sure if there were other reasons not to do it?

In that case, you've answered your own question and would/should know more about it than any of us!

I work for a window manufacturer, powdercoating aluminium windows for houses, that are stationary! I am also just the production administrator. Although I know about the long term effects that powdercoating has on stationary windows I am not aware if travelling on roads would wear it down and thought someone with caravan experience would have more knowledge. I'm sorry I asked, I thought this was a forum for advice etc?

Yes, this is a forum, not google. The information put together here was done by amateurs not experts, over a period of 15 years, It is not a one-stop shop and some information needs to be sought and found elsewhere, especially when it gets to technical matters. If you are working for a powdercoating business then they would have access to the sort of information you seek far more than this forum. To my knowledge, all cladding on factory built modern caravans is painted with powdercoating finishes.

You're right, I apologise. As this is a forum, if I powdercoat the finish I will update people on the pros and cons of powder coating a vintage caravan. Thanks for your input.

Hi Sherroy,
As far as I can remember, I can’t think of anyone on the forum that has powder coated their whole van. Some have powder coated specific components, such as the chassis, etc, but not the whole van. Most of us that have restored or renovated our vans have painted them using acrylic paint or oil-based enamel (there’s been an ongoing debate about which is best!). A few others have also used auto 2-pac which seems to produce an amazing finish.
So all that means that very few of us can comment on your proposed approach. That doesn’t mean that we won’t be really interested in what’s involved, the process, and the result. It will be great if you can post some photos as you go, and run a bit of commentary on how you’re going about it all.

Hi Sherroy,
Powdercoating each panel sounds like a great idea. If you work for a company that is able to do the job, I'd say go for it.
I'd be interested to see the finished result.

I think that's the point. You have to have the equipment and a big oven to powdercoat larger panels. It would look pretty amazing. Keep us updated if you do.
