Hi guys. my dad owns a Viscount aero lite 1986 model. it has what seems to be a gas strut/damper in the towing hitch and needs replacing. I have spoken to the maker ALKO with no luck part no longer available i was just wondering firstly if any one knows what I'm talking about and secondly if anyone knows where i just might find this part for him. have spoken to a gas strut reconditioning guy but he has no idea of how much gas should be in it.Can anyone help. Cheers Robert

Hello Robert, my partner suggests your father probably has a Viscount with the European chassis they imported direct from Germany at the time. He also says you should get the whole frame checked by a competent caravan repairer who is aware of the problems they have. Aparently there are modifications to reinforce the frame as they crack and they should be able to alter or change the drawbar to fit a standard type of towing coupling. TB also says if you call Hardings in Melbourne they may be able to tell you who in Adelaide specialises in fixing the Aerolite problems. Jeannie

I agree that you should have the van thoroughly checked as I was told the same thing a few years back when I was looking for a poptop. Seasoned caravaners warned me against the aerolite due to structural weaknesses. Rod G.
