Post 70 timber, the Propert folding van from Adelaide I think, What year did they stop production of these little rippers, do they fall into the caravan category, do you seperate them by date so one of mine will be accepted in this forum and the other not, being 2 years newer, Not actually a simple decision this date delineation being currently polled. The tech question behind this is: Does ony one know of the original finish on the Properts, mine were both sanded and painted by a previous loving owner and are both a shade that is supiciously like military olive drab. No trace of a previous finish can be found. curious Dave

Hi The Properts were built in Sydney. I would guess that the newest would be about 1963-4. The oldest is about 1951/2, as the folding mechanism was patented then. Can't really help much as far as van number/year of manufacture goes. Tom Propert took that to his grave and the family have been asked but with no response. Any Propert qualifies on this forum - even the guy I met last week who has circumnavigated Oz in one and was on his way to Cairns AGAIN. His van was clad in caravan ali panels. Spose that's one way to reduce maintenance energy while you're out there in God's great garden!!! The round window ones are the oldest - at a guess they went till about 1958/9 and then changed to off-square ones. Colour-wise, they were offered in cream and pale green, but a lot of people bought them as a shell and fitted the interior and painted them themselves, as they were quite expensive for their time. So you can do whatever ya want with colour. The one I'm fixing up at the moment will have three colours on the outside and you WILL need to wear your sunnies. Why not, I say!!! Ray

Hi Ray just out of interest the Propert cost 445 pounds in 1956 which of course was still the round window, but it also mentions a Junior model for baby cars and that was 395 pounds.
Cheers Exocet
