Hi guys, here some pictures of the 18ft glida vacation. The van was to trashed to save after being in the weather since1979.So all I could really do is score what ever I could. The van was very similar to my fairland in design but half a foot shorter than mine so naturally I had to score the annex, caragas stove and a hallstrom fridge The fridge is gas and electric and has not be used in 18 years,I plugged it in to electricity but she is a no goer. If anyone knows anything about it or has any tips to get it running give me a yell. The van had 6.40x13 tyres and has FC Holden hubcaps Cheers Dave

Hi C/D, an old mate once told me that you can sometimes get the old ammonia fridges going again by first rolling them end over end to mix up the gas and liquid in the system. he reckons it worked a treat for an old one in the RAAF barracks at Wagga when he was there in the 70's. may be worth a try. ;D ;D ;D

Hey Dave... Good score with the fridge and stove. Annexes is are always handy as well Do you have the van at your place . I wouldnt mind scoring a couple of those hinge open windows. If they are Qualcraft or similar They should fit the TD....I have a bad habit of breaking them . If ya can retrieve a couple of them and bring 'em with ya to Blacktown this weekend i will " square up $$$$" with you there??? Cheers Reddo

If your heading to Blacktown there is, or was a couple of years ago, a company there that rebuilds caravan ammonia type fridges. Not cheap to rebuild gas fridges but also not cheap to buy new either.
Our Electrolux Dometic gas fridge shat itself a few years ago and filled the van full of Ammonia gas.................. not very pleasant I can assure you!! Was quoted $1800 to rebuild then and $2400 for a new Electrolux Dometic ( yes the same fridge was still being made new 18 years later !! ) I'll see if I can find a contact number for them in the yellow pages and let you know here if I find it.
Regards Terry.

Hi FB mad, Thanks for the phone number as that fridge place is only 10 mins down the road from me .The price to fix them sounds pretty dear and at that price I think ill stick to ice . Reddo I loaded the tools in the wagon and worked solid for 2 and half hours taxing everthing I could till i could only fit in the car to get home. Its over and hours drive from my place and I originally had are car trailer lined up.But the frames rotted and the whole thing would flap in the wind and I dont want to do a humpty hatch trick.Im considering stripping it to the chassis where it sits and cashing in the aluminium and hiring a skip on their footpath and throwing all the timber in it then putting the chassis on a hired car trailer and getting it home .Id love to make a car trailer out of it but wheel track is proberly not wide enough .Not sure on my next move yet might leave it , I might get it .I scored a few windows for myself and others have cracks in them cheers. dave

Hey Dave! Wheres your sense of adventure?? Chuck on some new tyres grab a tow permit and haul 'er 'ome! Never mind a bit of rotten frame, just knock up some bracing mate and she'll be right ;D Or am I the only lunatic that rebuilds a van just to transport As for the fridge, I believe Frankiedownunda has the right advice. Roll it end over a few times then plug it in (actually I was gunna suggest you pick it up and shake the s#%* out of it). If it still don't work roll and try again. Finally, hook up some gas and try that. I have heard of fridges that will work on gas but not 240. I have the same model/age Hallstrom in my franklin, they are a good fridge if you can get it going. Good luck & if your gunna wreck it, ebay as much as you can, especially the stone guard on the front window, if you were closer I'd put my hand up for that! Cheers, Tinnie

Woooooo Hoooooo Onya chippy dave ;D I love your work. One less "vermin" tin van on the streets of Sydney. And it looks like it was a big strong double axle female that would have been capable of carrying a litter of at least 10 . These things can breed an migrate like cane toads. Tell the boys at the pub the royal bondwood preservation society will shout them a beer next time we are in town. I have nominated you as "Bondy champion of the month" Reddo
