Hi Pu2nule2,
Great to hear about what you've been doing with your caravan.
The 'E' serial number indicates that it is a Viscount Ambassador model. You probably already know that?

DON"T paint it! Big mistake & future owners will curse you as it's near impossible to remove! Also, it will just look like a 70's van then. I love the aluminium look & I love your van as it is.

Agreed with SGTL. I had to paint ours, but you will see every little ding for the past 50 years. Paint the strip in the same pattern. Polish the Aluminium a bit at a time, dosn't have to be done in a day.

Hi Pu2nule2, I'm with the others regarding not painting the cladding on your van - that's the way it was built, and it's nice that it's so original. The colour of the flashes on the side and the front window cover matches the upholstery, so that looks good too. However, if you are going to tow your van with a classic vehicle, matching the flashes to the colour of your car can look very effective if you wanted to do that. In reply to your first post, I mentioned that your van is a Viscount Ambassador, as indicated by the serial number, but I neglected to say that it is a 1969 model. The serial number and the shape of the flashes tells us that. In relation to painting your van, as it happens, 1969 was the year that Viscount introduced white acrylic cladding on the Ambassador range. At first it was an optional extra. We have a record of an Ambassador with the white cladding and a serial number almost 200 below yours (meaning it is a little bit older), so that tells us that the first owner of your van decided to go without the optional extra cladding. There's a post in the 'Down History Lane' section of the forum which provides info about Ambassador serial numbers, etc - click here. Don Ricardo

I helped someone set one up at a swap meet & it was fairly painless. He was on pretty much straight away. Are you trying via your computer or your phone?

does anyone have any idea of the value of this van? Have a look on the gumtree/ebay sites. As condition is every thing with a Vintage, prices vary thousands. We avoid discussion here with prices as talk can drive prices up & down.
