Hi all, Shaun and I are the proud new owners of a Sunliner. It is currently unregistered. It was previously registered in ACT as a 1960 Sunliner. Before i register it in NSW I would like to know if the van is actually a 1960. Can you please tell me how to date the van? Monica

10 Rules for dating a Sunliner
1. Make sure her fobbergrass is highly polished and you can see a reflection of your face in it 2. Check her bearings to make sure she runs smoothly and will go the distance. 3. Make sure fridge and freezer are full of consumables, both solid and liquid. 4, Make sure Ipod has enough music that suits all occasions. 5. Make sure all necessary attachments between her and your towcar are compatible and in working order 6. Don't go too far on a first date, things could go wrong and you'd be lost in the middle of nowhere! 7. Have plenty of stops along the way to get to know her quirks and idiosyncrasies 8. If stopping overnight, check that all jacks are in the "down" position. 9. In the morning, don't forget to make the bed, so that she presents well to any early visitors. 10.Don't get too hung up about how old she is, cos you know she's probably older than you!
Apart from that, I have no idea! You'll have to wait till a Sunliner owner comes along!

G'day BlueBird, Great to hear about your new van. The best guide I know for dating your Sunliner can be found on the Our Touring Past website here - scroll down to the post dated 29 August 2009 on the first page. There were basically three series of Sunliners, which I have informally given the short-hand labels of Type 1, 2 and 3. I think the best you may be able to work out is which Type your van is, and based on that, a range of years within which your van was built. But if you work your way through the OTP thread you may be able to do better than that and narrow down a build date to a single year. I seem to recall the serial number may tell you something, but I'm not sure... Good luck with your search. Don't forget to tell us what you figure out. Don Ricardo

That information was most helpful. After reading the thread on Our Touring Past, I believe that our new van is indeed a 1960 built van. However, I am yet to check on the serial number on the chassis as the van is at a shop getting some work done on it for rego. I'll check when it comes home. Thanks again, Monica

Thanks again, Monica Hi Again Don Ricardo, I have taken a photo of the Serial Number on the draw bar and compared it to the information on the thread on Our Touring Past. This photo tells me that the van was built in 1960 - December - and that it's van number 160. I love that this information is available. So fascinating Thanks so much for your assistance. I can now safety register it accurately in NSW as it's proper build year. Monica

G'day BlueBird, That's great news about finding the serial number. Well done. Glad you were able to find it. Finding your serial number will help others date their vans too. Don Ricardo
