Once again I am putting my hand up to organise a alternative tour to the 2018 Nationals, Canberra to Wangaratta via the high country rather than just blasting down the highway. Follow this link for the itinerary and site booking information Attachment DeletedAs always it is advisable for you to book your accommodation early to avoid disappointment. Very roughly the proposed route will be; Depart Canberra Sunday 15 April 2018 Jindabyne (Side trip without vans to Mt Kosciusko and Charlotte Pass)http://www.charlottepass.com.au/ www.visitnsw.com/destinations/snowy-mountains/jindabyne-areaTravel over the mountains Via Adaminaby and Cabramurra Via Khancoban www.khancoban.com.au/Corryong www.murrayriver.com.au/corryong/Tawonga (Side trip to Mt Beauty) www.tawonga.vic.au/ www.mtbeauty.com/Via Myrtleford www.visitmyrtlefordvic.com.au/Wangaratta Arrive Friday 20th I have been through this way previously in my 56 Buick towing a light van(automatic, drum brakes) and had no difficulty. Autumn is a spectacular time of year in the high country as the leaves change colour and drop. Please let me know if you are up to the challenge. Koala

Please find attached itinerary for the High Country Tour to the Nationals. Note that all caravan parks are pooch friendly so you just need to sort out a kennel in Wangaratta. Judy and I have stayed at all these parks over the years and I believe that you will be happy with them. The Colac Colac park is a bit out of town (Corryong) but on the river as is the park at Tawonga which has a good pub within walking distance. The walkers can spend some time to walk to the top of Mt Kosciuszko and take a photo to show me upon return Other options are trips up the mountain on the ski tube or on ski lifts some of which operate in summer. Only a year away and I'm excited. Attachment Deleted Whereis Map of route r.whereis.com/Va3iZoFWhereis map of Kosciuszko Day Trip r.whereis.com/gSXVMUN

Hi Koala, Add Gypsy 10 & wife to your band of followers. Do I need to book the van parks myself? If yes then do I tell them I'm with the Caravan Forum run?

Hi Gypsy 10 and wife, great to have you along.
Yes you will need to contact the caravan parks to book your own sites, mention that you are with the Vintage Caravan group.
`As always it is advisable for you to book your accommodation early to avoid disappointment'.
I am looking forward to it.

Time is flying by, I hope to have the Wayfarer in a liveable condition by then. A reminder that anyone considering coming along should book their sites.
It will be a great time of year to visit the high country!!

We have a nice manageable group of 10 vans currently coming on the High Country Tour to the Nationals. Another couple of vans would be welcome but you had better stop thinking about it and make your bookings if you are coming along. I am looking forward to a few nights in the mountains where the air is clean, the scenery is awesome and the stars are big. Koala

Hi koala
Count me in for the High Country Tour. Previous to our discussion with you and Judy, will it still be ok for me to park my van out the front of your place the night before we leave, as I will just stay with my son around the corner in Gilmore, for the night. I'll just hitch up in the morning again.
Cheers

Koala/Ken, Just Reading in the latest Time to 'Roam' Magazine about your fall from grace in the scone -making arena at Shellharbour. I am sure all the participants in the High Country tour will put their waistlines on the line so you can again perfect your skill ready for next year. . I will contact the caravan parks to access the size of their camp ovens. I'm sure contributions of jam and cream will be flowing, cheers Murray

Hi Murray i appreciate your concern but Shellharbour was merely a training session. Any good athlete (or chef) needs to preserve their energy for tbe main event. Koala

Murray, there is a back story to that. I was one of the Judges and Ken's scones were certainly in the hunt for the top gong. He even brought me a bourbon, so he got bonus points for bribery. However. When I found out that he bribed me with my own bourbon he lost points for that. Lol Mike
