G'day Murray, Some interesting things turning up in Tasmania at the moment! A veritable cornucopia of vintage caravans! For anyone interested this van first appeared on the forum back in 2007 - photos before restoration here. The van was the subject to a major, almost ground up rebuild by Richard Potter ( Vantoura), and the story of the rebuild was featured in an article in a fairly recent issue of Vintage Caravan Magazine. As the Gumtree advert says it is the only one (or perhaps one of two) Glen caravans still known to be in existence, so is quite an important van from an historical perspective. Don Ricardo

Sorry to be pedantic Don Ricardo, and you knew I would be in this instance, but whilst I admire Vantoura's rebuild of this Glen and always have, considering the state it was in, there is still only one KNOWN original Glen, totally untouched since it was first built

G'day Roehm, I never mind you being pedantic - I always feel more comfortable when I'm amongst my own kind! And I agree that the Glen you posted the photo of, is the only original Glen caravan that we know of. (Sorry about the clauses ending with a preposition - not the way to impress a pedantic person! ) You may have noted that I tried to word my post quite carefully? I stated that the Gumtree Glen was 'the only one (or perhaps one of two)...still known to be in existence', because I didn't know whether the van you'd seen in 2011 (and again in 2015, apparently) had survived, and in addition the photos you had posted back in 2011 had disappeared from the DHL Glen thread. I also carefully avoided saying that the Glen caravan Vantoura had rebuilt (literally) from the chassis up was original. (Have I dug myself out of the hole yet? ) Having said that, I admire the meticulous work Vantoura undertook in rebuilding the van now on Gumtree, and while it has been rebuilt perforce using a lot of modern materials, in my view it is much better that it is in the state it now is, rather than having rotted away into a pile of sawdust. And as for the photos of the Glen you've posted on the DHL thread? Most definitely the best New Year's gift I've received all year! Great to see them. Don Ricardo

Yes, Don Ricardo, I took careful note of your precise descriptions all 'round! My 2015 visit was what will most likely be my final attempt to get this van, as age (mine) and a lack of undercover area really means that my Hunter Minor, which I am currently giving a new lease of life, will most likely be my last van project. I will try very hard not to be piqued again to the point of editing my downloaded photos to the extent I did. Glad too that you can be so predictive as to say that you are not going to have a nicer present this year than the pics of the Glen I put in DHL!!! What are you like on Lotto numbers??? Ray
