Hello & welcome. What a great find you have there. Porthole windows, venetian blinds, interior intact! Obviously some water damage but certainly not a complete wreck. I'm sure a Carapark enthusiast will be along shortly to help you out with the model etc, but in the meantime,(if you haven't already done so) have a read of this thread; vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/2001/carapark-caravans

G'day Stevethecollector, That's a very nice Carapark you've tripped over. Hope you didn't hurt yourself! It's a bit big to hurdle over, isn't it? As SGTL has commented, it's great to see a Carapark 'toaster' model (as we fondly call them) in such original condition inside. So many have been gutted or suffered from extensive water damage. The ceiling of yours is obviously water damaged, but the furniture looks to be in reasonable or at least saveable condition. Regarding the model and year...I've compared your van to others we've got on the forum, and based on that I think it looks like a Sixteen-Two model. And I think I can read that on the Carapark sticker you've shown us, but I might be just kidding myself about that - if you can't read that on the actual sticker, I probably can't read it from a photograph! The model number and serial number has been impressed into the metal Carapark sticker, so perhaps if you carefully remove the paint with judicious use of a little bit of paint stripper or similar, you might be able to read it. One other way to work out the model is to measure the body of the caravan (ie the length of the cabin without the A-frame). It if measures 16 feet 2 inches, or something close to that, then that's your answer. If the van is a Sixteen-Two, then I'm pretty sure that means it will have been built sometime between about 1958 and 1960, because as far as I can discover that's the only period that Carapark produced a sixteen foot toaster model. However, I may not be quite right about that. You may also be able to find out a bit more about the model and year by finding the serial number stamped on the A-frame. You may find it hard to discover it under the paint, etc, but if you can find it, it may tell you what you're looking for, although it may require interpretation. Let us know if I am correct about the length of the van, and also if you can find the serial number on the A-frame, and we can help you further. Forum member Stevej who has a business restoring and repurposing Carapark toasters, will probably also be able to tell you more. Don Ricardo Post Postscript: After this post, I saw some photos of a supposed mid-50's 16 foot Carapark and commented on that in my first postscript. However, when I checked further, it turns out it isn't a 16 footer at all - so cancel that! However, I also found a post from another forum member who's Sixteen-Two toaster has a serial number indicating that it was built in 1957. So to modify my comments above, if your van is indeed a Sixteen-Two it would have been built sometime between 1957 and 1960.

Found the model number and it is indeed a 16/2 Next question. Did they come factory painted . And if so, did they come two tone, three tone ect . This one may of been green and grey, maybe aluminum roof .

Hi Stevethecollector,
Well done on finding the model name/number. Was that on the Carapark sticker you showed us or another sticker on the body somewhere?
Have you been able to find the serial number on the draw bar? If so, that will tell you the year as well.
Regarding your question about the painted body, I've come across a 1958 Carapark advert saying that 'all models' are 'now' available in a variety of colours, including two tone. I take that to mean that the painted bodywork - as opposed to the previous unpainted, polished aluminium - was new in 1958. So, it appears that the painted body may have been introduced at about the same time that the model names were changed from words (eg Superb, Hunter, etc) to numerical based (eg Twelve-Nine, etc). And that was also around the same time that the Sixteen-Two model like yours was introduced.
As far as I can work out the Sixteen-Two toaster was replaced by the Zestline 16 model in 1960. The Zestline was a quite different shape, so I reckon that seems to confirm that your model was only produced between 1957 (probably mid to late 1957, because it is not mentioned in early 1957 caravan guides) to around 1960, so quite a narrow window.

The model no was off the top sticker. The serial no off the same sticker is 0133? Or something similar. No luck with numbers on the draw bar.

Hey, Stevethecollector. That's great news! So that confirms everything - your van is a 1958 Sixteen-Two, and it was the 133rd Carapark built in that year. I'm not sure what the 'C' in the serial number is (maybe just 'C' for Carapark). Perhaps Stevej will be able to tell us that? What are you going to do with the van? Are you going to restore it? Hi Stevethecollecter, could you please tell me the location of the number stamped on the A-frame, as is what side and and the top or bottom? I have a 12/9 and the drawbar has been painted and I am hoping to narrow my search for the number. Thanks. Ben
