im almost ready to recanvas the furness roof i have read that under coat can be used to bond the cloth to the roof but i need to shrink the canvas because of the 2 way curve of the roof. it would not be so hard if the roof only had a curve in one direction.. i have read doping will seal and shrink the canvas is that stuff still available in bulk. i can buy model aircraft dope but its $16 for 250 mls im thinking i will need 20 tins to do the roof.... i have found a supplier that has light weight white canvas ...brenten

Hi Brenton,
Good luck and please let us know how you go with it - I'll need to replace the canvas roof on the Runlite when I start on it later this year and I'll have the same issue with concave curves.
Mine was originally coated with dope which (according to aircraft engineer brother-in-law) contains powdered aluminium to reflect UV rays and decrease deterioration from sun exposure.

G'day Moparman
The Don 133 I am working on has "pinked" edges on light canvas tape fitted to all external corners, I have heard it is/was used in the airplane industry, evidently the model plane enthusiasts use it & glue it in place with dope. The tape used is 25mm wide, I would love to know where I can get it & where to get the dope. I cannot open the link you posted.
Thanks, ST.

My retired builder says they used to shrink the canvas on bus roofs with lots of water! I wasn't paying a lot of attention when he described it to me though, sorry
