Hi Lyneth and Larrikin Larry, Good to hear from you both. Interesting little van you have there for sale, and intriguing to see the Glen nameplate. Are you able to provide us with a photo of the whole plate and/or tell us what the full wording is please? It would be good to see those details. The reason the Glen nameplate is intriguing is that this is the third time on the forum that info has been posted about a caravan with a 'Glen distributed by Truscott' nameplate on the chassis. The first time was in 2006 when Mikeosborne posted about a van he saw in South Australia here. The second time was earlier this year in relation to a Hardy Van caravan here. Both of the vans concerned had South Australian origins, and it seemed like that the 'Glen' brandname might refer to the chassis rather than the vans themselves. Interestingly, the van you have for sale has the profile and some of the internal features (particularly in the galley) of a Hardy Van, which has been clad in aluminium at some stage. Wouldn't surprise me if that's what it is. But in any case it seems like it might have been built in SA. If you can provide a photo of the Glen nameplate to help us figure out who Glen was, that would be great. Meanwhile, good luck with the sale. Don Ricardo

Hi Akeepsake,
Thanks for posting the additional photo of the Glen nameplate on Larrikinlarrry and Lyneth's van. Having seen the additional details in the photo you posted, I have been able to pull some info together with the help of good old 'trusty Trove". I'll post it shortly.

Hi Akeepsake,
Having looked at the additional photos of this van on Ebuy, I'm now even closer to certainty (well about 85%!) that Larry the Larrikin and Lyneth's van is a Hardy Van which has been clad in aluminium. The galley layout, stove alcove, sink, construction of the water tank and shelving all point in that direction. And of course there's the Glen chassis.

Thanks so much DonR. What a legend! Did your info indicate a year? We could only come up with 50's

Don. What do you make of the portholes. Others don't seem to have them

G'day Lyneth,
It's still possible that your van isn't a Hardy Van and is a home-built. But the van has so many Hardy features that I feel reasonably confident that's what it is. If it is a Hardy Van, then it has been re-clad with the aluminium at some point, and it's possible that the aluminium framed windows and portholes were added at the same time to 'update' it.
Regarding build date, I'm not sure that we can say more than 'sometime in the 50's' at this stage, although it could be even earlier. I have found a Hardy advert from 1950 and another advert from 1954 where they refer to having given their customers satisfaction with a "Hardy's" (presumably caravans) for ten years. So they were building vans at least as early as 1950 and perhaps as early as 1944. The styling of the vans is more 40's than 50's, so that suggests a 40's starting date. At the other end they still had a telephone book entry in 1958. So that provides a possible date range for your van.
