been working hard on the furness the out side walls turned out to be breaking down so they have been removed there was a little rot in the frame about half of that has now been replaced with new timber so maybe in a week or two we can start fitting the new walls.then recanvas the roof 21 weeks and 5 days until the nats..... robyn

G'day Robyn (and Brenten!), Great to see you're restoring a 12 ft Furness. I can only think of one other Furness owned by a forum member (although I may be wrong), and that's a 14 footer, so that makes your van the only 12 footer on the forum! (I'm pretty certain of the latter.) As you've probably read, the 12 ft model was developed specifically by Furness to be towed by FX and FJ Holdens, so it will be a great match with your FX...ahem...48-215... Looking forward to seeing the pics of the restoration and to seeing the van in all its glory at the Nats in 2016. Don Ricardo

Hi Andrew this furness has 3mm ply inner walls then a 19.4 mm gap then it had 4mm masonite outside walls of course it would have been imperial measurements

Hi Andrew this furness has 3mm ply inner walls then a 19.4 mm gap then it had 4mm masonite outside walls of course it would have been imperial measurements Ok I read a post somewhere where the early ones were sandwiched together ?? This setup makes it easy for you to replace the Masonite for ply. Be wary re "marine ply" from some of the hardware stores as they are not what they seem and will be affected by moisture ! Get some good sealer on asap especially on the edges Cheers Andrew

thank you for that i will on the weekend ...i found about 6 differant types of marine ply i ended up with hardwood i hope i did the correct thing.... If you are hand painting with enamel I have found that the Dulux Prepcoat is good gear for bare timber I used 3 coats sanding between and tinted close to colour www.dulux.com.au/products/dulux-interior-products/preparation/product-detail?product=2179Oh don't do it in the sun as it dries to fast but it is forgiving with a sand ! Cheers Andrew
