There is a van for sale under the brand name Designer Vans built in 1960. Is that a well known brand or a home made van with that registered name? Inputs appreciated.

Hi Gitano,
There's no reference to 'Designer Vans' on the forum that I can find, and certainly nothing in the Down History Lane section.
If you can point us to where the van is advertised or a photo or two we may be able to help you further.
Maybe the seller just thought it was the best way of describing the van?

Hi again Gitano,
Thanks for that link. Pity the photos aren't a bit larger, eh?
I personally can't give you a definite ID on the van, but the shape and general design certainly fits a very late 50's or very early 60's build date (and we're talking literally about 1959/60 here). The van looks very like a Franklin or a Roma from about that date, but the shape of the wheel arch doesn't quite match either of them. The livery - the shape of the painted flash on the side - doesn't match either of those either, because of the wider band at the front. Of course the flash may have been added/modified at a later stage.
Hopefully someone will be able to give you something more specific, but I reckon the seller has just called the van 'Designer' because he had to put something in as a brand.

I call the owner it call it Designer Van but it is not a brand and not documentation about it. Roof, front and back are in aluminium, side panels in plywood about 10 mm thick and the door appears to be made with King Billy pain. The rood was repair (damaged by a small branch) but water got in. I pass on it and look for and old Millard, Viscount or any other van with aluminium frame. Cheers
