Picking up a van from Sunshine Coast next week and not too sure which route to take..leaving Albury Thursday morning. Do I take the Newell Highway or the New England Highway? I'm not too fussed going up, but, coming home with van in tow which would be better? Anybody done this trip lately? Your input would be most appreciated.

Hi,
We towed our Deejay Tandem from Northern NSW to Bacchus Marsh earlier this year.
For a change from using the coast road, we used the Newell Highway. What a difference it was. Much less traffic, road was good, & such a major improvement in driving conditions.
I would use the Newell Highway , without any doubt. Lots of good caravan parks on the side of the road as well.

Think I' ll go up the Newell and come back down the New England, not much different in time or distance I hear. Been told less trucks on New England and would have better services in case of emergencies.

Just got home..4026 kms, didn't enjoy the Newell at all, mongrel road from Goondawindi to Brisbane. Heaps better trip coming back by the New England and only about 100kms longer. Worst bit of road this way being from Gunnedah to Coonabarabran about an hour.. and further down past West Wyalong good surface but bumpy. Van towed like a dream..hardly new it was there!.Used about an extra $70 in fuel coming back. Used 12litres per 100kms. Towed with VW Amarok (10 out of 10)
