Hi All, After a long break from looking for a VV one has been offered to me out of the blue! It is a Capri Special and looks to be about 11ft. Can anyone tell me if it was made by Millard?? I have been searching through the Millard info and can't find anything that looks like it. Thanks in advance

Hi Littlewhitecloud,
As far as I can see, Millard is the only manufacturer in the vintage era (ie 1969 or earlier) that produced a model named 'Capri', but even then I don't think they produced an 11 footer.
The only other Capri I know about was a model with that name produced by Anglo caravans in New Zealand. It is said that Anglo built vans in Australia for 18 months at some point, but I don't know what models were produced here. All the same it might be possible that your van is an NZ Capri that was imported at some stage.
Do you have any photos of the Capri Special? If we can see some pics we might be able to tell you something. There are instructions in the 'Forum Guidelines & Helpful Hints' section on how to post photos if you haven't done it before.
Looking forward to hearing more,
Don Ricardo

Hi again Littlewhitecloud,
Well done on uploading the photos of the van! There is a way to upload them from Flickr, but what you've done now is fine.
I can't identify the van straight off, and will have to think about it, but somebody like Hughdeani will probably be able to tell you quite quickly. Having said that, based on the design, the van is Australian built, and branded as a Capri either by a caravan dealer or perhaps by a previous owner. The 'Special' badge is from a Holden, and was used by several caravan manufacturers to designate one of their models as a 'special'.
Let's see what others can tell you. Looks like a great little van though.

Looks like an old "Modern" to me, I'm sure we have pics of bigger vans like this one. As you say Don,probably yard or privately named. Cheers hughdeani

Hi Hughdeani and Littlewhitecloud, Well done Hughdeani! It's a Modern. Of course! I knew I had been looking at something very similar recently but couldn't pick it! Littlewhitecloud, have a look at the Modern caravan shown in this post. It's a slightly earlier model than yours, but the design is the same. I'm not exactly sure when Modern changed from unpainted aluminium cladding to the baked acrylic finish, but most other manufacturers changed over sometime between 1967 and the end of the decade. So that suggests that your van was built sometime in the late 60's or into the 70's. Don Ricardo

Maybe if I put a Capri special badge on my 67 Modern I could have one Only thing different is window size and a door that swings the other way and the alim used. Brian
