Up for sale is a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase one of the most immaculate and originally preserved Olympic Riviera Caravans. I have not advertised this elsewhere as yet because I want it to go to someone who will maintain and look after this unique piece of Australian Caravan History. Like a lot of us we are custodian's of these lovely old caravans and they need to be preserved for the enjoyment of others in the future. We are selling this as our current needs have changed and are looking to purchase a smaller caravan.
It is a 1968 model (confirmed by BOBLOR) and was purchased by us approx 5 years ago from Dimboola in Victoria. The gentleman who sold it to me had only just acquired it himself from a deceased estate and it was believed to have been shedded for approx 35 years. We are only the 3rd ever registered owners in 46 years.
The condition of the van is what I would describe as nothing else but excellent and the interior is almost like new. The caravan still retains its original gel coat and is in fantastic condition. It comes with it's original canvas awning which is like new and the previous owner mentioned that it was still wrapped in plastic when he purchased it. Even the guide ropes are the original rope style with the timber handles. The Roden oven is like new inside and comes with all the original trays and instructions.
Since owning it we have made some modifications and improvements to it but without affecting its original appearance internally or externally.
Improvements since we have owned consist of the following : Internal 100 Amp/Hr battery with charger, 3x 12 volt sockets - 2 internal and 1 external. These have been placed discreetly as to not affect the original appearance of the caravan. Also a steel bumper bar with plastic pole carrier has been installed on the rear to protect it from accidental knocks. This could be easily removed if you wished but we believe it adds that little bit more of protection on the rear. All of the dinette seats and beds have reupholstered in a period fabric covering. We carefully unpicked the stitching on the original vinyl covers and still have them - they will come with the caravan. New curtains were made, again in a period colour/ pattern to suit the age of the van but also to brighten up the interior with some colour. A mirror has been installed under the lid of the bed side drawers, an additional 240v power point above the sink, a internal storage box within the wardrobe to store additional shoes or those extra bottles of wine which we did, new vinyl flooring, new water tap, electric brakes and a heavier duty axle rated to 1450kg (this was a must for safety and legal requirements), pyramid matting on the external front of the caravan to protect from stone damage, a stone guard has been fitted to the underside of the water tank, 3x new 14 inch tyres and wheel bearings, (spare is brand new), new side and tail light lenses (the original ones were brittle), near new 3-way 80 Lt Dometic Fridge (unfortunately the original Morphy Richards Astral stopped working on our 2nd trip).
The original canvas awning was in 1 enormous section and quite heavy when we purchased it so it was either all up with all 3 walls and roof or nothing. We had the awning professionally altered with zips so you can now have just the canvas roof up or combinations of adding 1x wall, 2x walls, all 3x walls. The internal lights operate on either 240V or 12 volt for free camping and have separate fluro globes. Makes life so much easier. The caravan has always been serviced regularly and worked on by EBS - Electric Brake Specialist's in Holden Hill, Adelaide. Please feel free to ask to speak to Russell the Manager on 08 8263 0600 who will confirm all work that has been done as well as the excellent and original condition of the caravan.
Also included with caravan is a spare Roden Gas oven with hotplates which matches the current one installed in the caravan. I purchased this as a spare in case something went wrong with the original one which has never happened. Some other spare parts are included with the caravan like external side and tail lights and stow away wheels.
The caravan is located in Adelaide SA and I can be reached on 0418 817591 for genuine buyers or you can p/message me. I will be uploading some photos later for you all to view. These fibreglass vans are sought after and are becoming an appreciating asset.
2-08-15, 6pm - Sorry folks, unable to download photos even after reducing each picture below the 1mb requirement. Not sure what is going on but if you are interested I am more than happy to email them to your personal email address.
2-08-15 8.30pm - Forgot to mention there is a full draft skirt included and all of the original insulating foam is intact and in pristine condition on the internal walls and within the inside of the cupboards. Is anyone else having difficulty loading photos? If anyone could shed some light it would be appreciated.
5-08-15 9.30am - Just found the original Roden Oven instruction manual and warranty card - not torn and in excellent condition. Also forgot to mention we have the battery wired up with a separate external lead for running a solar panel so you can free camp for day's on end. Sorry our solar panel is not included in the sale though.
Thankyou
10-08-15 10.45pm - Finally got photos downloaded.
